Consistency: The Bible is a lengthy text, with more than 783,000 words. AI can reduce the cognitive load of translators allowing them to concentrate on the subtleties and deeper meanings of passages. 3. Cross-reference and analysis: AI can quickly process and compare large volumes of texts that are spread out around the world. 4. Oral and complex languages: Neural Machine Translation can be trained on specialized datasets (including audio recordings) to help with rare languages and oral languages.

In the dynamic generative AI landscape, while OpenAI and Google are making waves, Meta is steadily emerging as a dark horse with its impactful open-source models. For example, Meta recently introduced SeamlessStreaming – a cutting-edge, near real-time translation tool that transcends language barriers by supporting speech-to-speech translation across nearly 100 input and 36 output languages. The generative AI platform shift heralds a new era of efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Traditional simultaneous interpretation, indispensable in global business contexts, typically incurs costs of $1,500 to $2,500 per day, necessitating the hiring of at least two interpreters, advance planning, and specialized equipment such as wireless headsets for participants. In stark contrast, SeamlessStreaming offers an accessible, on-demand solution at a tiny fraction of the cost. It’s not just a translation tool; it’s a 24/7 global communication facilitator, supporting an extensive array of language pairs. Meta’s related SeamlessExpressive solution is designed to retain the subtleties of human emotion during translation. In an experiment, I used it to translate the included video message from English to French, Spanish, and German. While the lip-syncing isn’t flawless yet, the results were impressively close to natural speech, showcasing the potential of this technology. The pace of innovation in generative AI is not just rapid; it’s revolutionary. These advancements are not merely technological feats; they represent a paradigm shift in global communication and business operations. I’m going to reveal a teeny-tiny secret about machine translation right now. The number of articles, posts, tweets, and all this buzz around AI forcing out human translators are totally overwhelming these days. Yes, yes, yes, we’ve heard it already — our time is running out. Got it. Now just stop and think for a minute. Where does your ChatGPT learn from? Where does any other AI tool get its database for building large language models (LLMs) afterwards? Make yourself comfortable — I’ll tell you. They get all the information from previously created texts. Texts created by humans, by different translators. Very different, believe me. So, here is the point: some of these translators are excellent professionals while the others can barely be set apart from Google Translate (you don’t say!). Moreover, a significant portion of created texts has already been translated with the help of machine translation tools and presented as human work. You probably ask me — why? Because a lot of customers (especially big translation agencies) don’t care of the quality but care a lot about finding the cheapest workforce (well, not a modern invention). So, what do we have now? 🔶      Machines are learning on huge databases of dubious quality without any criteria which texts are good and which are total rubbish. 🔶      Happy agencies are eagerly calculating the benefits from cutting translators’ salaries. 🔶      End customers often lack knowledge about translation and how to assess its quality. They consider it a great breakthrough and wonderful opportunity to cut costs. 🔶      As a result translators have to deal with editing low-quality texts for little money, so now it is a moment of glory for cheap translators: they don’t care of quality, machine translation has already been their long-term friend, and now they even have more workload for similar money. Moral of the story… Artificial intelligence is not a human student, who can surpass the master. It learns from what “the master” can teach it — no more, no less.
