For more than six decades, DRI has tackled global climate challenges. But fortifying communities against environmental devastation requires more than science — it demands diversity of thought and the collective resolve of leaders and subject matter experts across the full spectrum of public and private sectors. Our new global initiative, AWE+, will begin with a wildfire summit where delegates will grapple with difficult questions, share ideas, and form collaborative relationships that enable them to reduce risk and improve resilience to wildfire. https://lnkd.in/gpMPURvW

Learning from one of the best in participatory planning and community engagement! During our session, we delved into how the Ward Climate Change Council has embraced inclusive approaches to addressing climate challenges. The council has implemented participatory planning by involving community members, local leaders, and grassroots organizations in identifying climate vulnerabilities and co-developing adaptive strategies. This approach ensures that solutions are locally relevant, sustainable, and align with community needs. The training emphasized the importance of community engagement as a cornerstone for climate resilience. By creating an open dialogue, promoting shared responsibility, and leveraging indigenous knowledge, the Ward Climate Change Council has been able to build trust and inspire collective action against climate change. With leaders like Polly Okaron guiding us, we're empowered to take these lessons into our communities and champion impactful, inclusive climate initiatives!
