The Philadelphia Orchestra’s 1973 Tour of China, the first by an American orchestra, is remembered today as a symbol of deep musical friendship. Since that first visit, the Orchestra has returned 11 times. Highlights from those visits over the years are documented in these photos. This week, musicians of the Orchestra will travel to China for two weeks of performances, shared musical experiences, and educational events to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the historic 1973 tour. We hope that our music-making will continue to build bridges between our people and cultures for many years to come.
