https://lnkd.in/g8r-SbCU. #BeltandRoad train coming. "The most important aspect is #connectivity in #transportation. For example, there has been large-scale development of #railways, #highways, #ports, #airports, and other #infrastructure in many parts of the world." Meaningful so, but in no way to the extent originally imagined. "China has almost single-handedly shouldered the burden and challenge of building infrastructure in all of these parts." Huh? It's not free. And they don't like to cooperate with others... And no strings attached? Not so... just different ones... #FDi #Laos #highspeedrail #Piraeus #Greece #BRI #winwin #hydropower #environmentalstandards #lendingstandards #B3W #PGII #Europe #USChinarelations #Djibouti #Ethiopia

In today's ever-evolving global economic landscape, China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) emerges as one of the most audacious and extensive infrastructure endeavors of our time. Frequently likened to the "New Silk Road," the BRI is a visionary project designed to establish a comprehensive network of roads, railways, ports, and various other infrastructural elements, connecting Asia, Europe, and Africa. Beyond the physical infrastructure, it encompasses a wide range of investment opportunities and financing models. In this article, we will explore the financing and investment prospects associated with the BRI, offering insights into the implications for both Chinese and foreign companies. A Concise Introduction to the Belt and Road Initiative #sfaiglobal #sfaiasia #China #beltandroad #finance

A bold rail project, the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec (CIIT), is Mexico's ambitious answer to the Panama Canal. With an investment of over £2 billion, this 188-mile rail network aims to revolutionise global trade. CIIT promises faster transportation, taking just six to seven hours to clear the track compared to eight to ten hours by water. While challenges lie ahead, including environmental concerns, CIIT could potentially redefine shipping routes between Asia and North America. #GlobalTrade #InfrastructureDevelopment #CIITProject

Former Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan (2006-2010, 2022), SCO Secretary General (2019-21); Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Germany, Poland, Switzerland (1998-2003); BENELUX, EU & NATO (2004-06, 2013-17)
The transport and infrastructure initiatives of China and the European Union show signs of unfolding strategic competition in the Eurasian region. With Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Europe and China have lost their shortest land trade route, while the importance of the Middle Corridor has increased. Currently, the parties are interested in establishing sustainable trade routes through Central Asia and the South Caucasus, but the tone of recent statements points to the need for constructive dialogue. In a strategic pivot towards Central Asia, the European Union is increasingly asserting its interests in the region. This was evident during the second European Union-Central Asia Economic Forum, where Valdis Dombrovskis, the European Commission’s Executive Vice-President, highlighted the EU’s intention to explore new trade routes and opportunities connecting Central Asia and the EU. Dombrovskis emphasized the need for investment in addressing transportation bottlenecks and infrastructure development, signaling a clear EU commitment to enhancing regional connectivity. Information on Chinese projects under the Belt and Road has been prepared by the Central Asia Data Collection and Analysis Team (hereinafter CADGAT) and covers the period from 2013 to 2018. In total, China has allocated about $23.5 billion for 51 railway and road infrastructure projects. The seemingly competitive environment also indicates that China and the EU have common interests that could lead to the institutionalisation of cooperation in Central Asia in the future. Going back to the lessons of history, the Silk Road required the co-operation of all trade participants despite intense market competition. In this respect, the Global Gateway and the Belt and Road can either oppose or complement each other. The only area of real open competition may be the attractiveness of the proposed projects, with the increased role of the Central Asian countries, which automatically become the jury in this competition. https://lnkd.in/dhNpBtsD

Planning the use of maritime space is very complex and needs close cooperation across borders. #EU #EMFAF eMSP NBSR Project brings together 15 countries from the #Baltic and #North Sea to foster cooperation across the two sea basins for the efficient development of Maritime Spatial Plans. Dr Kira Gee from the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency says “Visualise the invisible, that’s a great challenge since the complexity of MSP and related issues make it really hard to get a clear picture of the overarching problems, the impact and solutions.” eMSP NBSR promotes exchanges beyond national borders through a community of practice where project partners and MSP experts share experiences, challenges, knowledge and elaborate best practices and recommendations on specific topics. 🌏 The Global Gateway Initiative (#GGI) under the European Union, 🇪🇺 posited as an alternative to China´s Belt and Road Initiative (#BRI) 🇨🇳 in Southeast Asia, has embarked upon a promising trajectory, albeit with challenges ahead. Our President Alfred Gerstl, an expert on Southeast Asia, alongside Research Assistant Nick Nieschalke, have examined the nuances of infrastructure cooperation within Southeast Asia under the GGI spearheaded by the EU. They are also shedding light on two GGI lighthouse projects in the Philippines 🇵🇭 and Vietnam. 🇻🇳 Read more here 👇🏼 https://lnkd.in/eDBwR3W8
