Gama Aviation to delist from AIM UK business aviation services company Gama Aviation unveiled plans to delist from the junior stock market: the Alternative Investment Market (Aim). Under the delisting plan, the company has proposed to return up to £32.6m to shareholders by way of a tender offer at 95 pence per ordinary share capable of acceptance by all eligible shareholders. The company said that the legal and regulatory burden associated to trading on the AIM is disproportionate to its benefits. In addition, with average daily volume over the past 12 months of approximately 14,900 shares (0.02% of the issued share capital), the company said that the costs associated with maintaining the AIM quotation are high and could be better utilised. ELLIOTT INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT'S SUGGESTED BOARD SLATE You go to bed after reading the names that #ElliottInvestmentManagement (EIM) put forth for #SouthwestAirlines shareholders to consider as replacements for some or all of the existing board members. You wake up even more disappointed. I believe in EIM's move to challenge the existing management at Southwest and hold them accountable for an airline that has lost $20B+ in market value since 2017. But trying to make a big splash with a proxy fight armed with a proposed slate of directors that seems to be more of a group of individuals comprising a due diligence team rather than 2/3 of its idea of a reconstituted board is --- well, disappointing. They point to two former CEOs. They both did right by the companies they served but was it really running airlines or a heavy dose of financial engineering that led to a good turnaround story? I say very little if nothing about Hawaiian and Hawaii as I was a former board member. I am well acquainted with a senior member of Southwest's management team as well as a person EIM has put forth to be their labor expert? That is all I will say. But appreciate the fact that I am saying it. I know some things. EIM has put forth a few good names too. But will EIM really know a damn thing until they get on the inside and understand the results being generated by the airline? No. Is something amiss? Yes. Southwest Airlines is a complicated animal believed to be simple. In early 2015, its market cap was $29 billion. It would grow to $39 billion by the end of 2017. In 2017, the airline operated more than 700 aircraft equivalents. In 2018 they would add another 200. Today, by the grace of God/Boeing, Southwest operates only 800ish aircraft equivalents but less than 850. When Herb retired as CEO, the airline operated 350ish aircraft equivalents. When he retired as Chairman, they were operating more than 525 units of flying - and airframes getting bigger. A growth of 350+ units say on paper that the airline has roughly doubled since 2008. In reality it has grown more complicated exponentially. This is not just about seats, redeyes, and boarding procedures. At what point did the airline actually outgrow its point-to-point architecture. Continuing to add frequencies with larger aircraft is another ride up the S-Curve that results in diminishing returns. If too late in implementing and executing on a revenue accretive connecting strategy, when did that go wrong? How can it be fixed? Financial engineering is not necessary - it still has a balance sheet that remains the industry's envy. It could use some help like every airline on the retailing side. It will not find another Herb + Colleen, but EIM had best not forget the employees in this. The airline needs to be more productive. Only the employees know where that might be found. Don't ignore the pilots/others. I was asked to describe a young Southwest by a reporter. My run on answer is attached. #swelbar

#Exclusive: New Asian lessor targets narrowbody engines 🛫   Following the unveiling of Hanwha Aviation’s aviation leasing operations, Airfinance Journal talks to its chief executive officer, Jeff Lewis, about its investment case.   The firm has already closed the acquisition of several engines for lease placements later this month.   “We are a new leasing platform with an Asian nexus but global footprint, and the focus is a long-term engine play leveraging our vertically integrated strategy.
