As part of the demonstration and training for our customer who recently purchased PD DETECTOR PRO, we conducted a quick PD sweep at their 33kV substation, where partial discharge was suspected due to failures in neighbouring assets. During the sweep, we detected PD near the cable termination. You can clearly hear the PD activity and see the PRPD pattern on the screen. What was particularly striking was that we could even observe visible sparking and a small glow from the cable termination. Unfortunately, the video doesn’t capture this clearly and due to safety, we couldn’t get closer for a better view. Nonetheless, this demonstration was very convincing for our client, who is now considering implementing PD monitoring to prevent future failures. This case highlights how essential it is to have PD detection tools to avoid unexpected issues within your assets.
