I am very fortunate to have an incredible hobby that has helped me grow and make meaningful connections over the last 8 years. Learning to fly ✈️ and maintain my own aircraft has been one of the most valuable investments of my spare time. It also allows me to visit unique places and enjoy breathtaking views from the air 🌅. Recently, I flew over the River Severn to visit Uskmouth Power Station. Uskmouth is the site of E.ON’s largest battery project within the Group, right here in the UK. Two large-scale battery storage facilities, each with a capacity of 230 megawatt-hours and an output of 115 megawatts ⚡, are being built on the former coal-fired powerstation site in Newport, South Wales. The batteries will be stored in at least sixty shipping containers 🚢 and will hold the same amount of energy as about 35 million smartphones 📱, roughly one for every second person in the UK. It’s a perfect location for grid-scale batteries due to the large grid connection. In the video below, you can see the area cleared to house the shipping containers, with the former coal-fired power station in the background. It’s inspiring to see new life being breathed into what was once a key part of our power network 🔋.
