It was an honor to speak to the passionate youth leaders of the Southeast Asia Youth Leadership Program (SEAYLP) this week on building a more equal, inclusive world. SEAYLP brings together 50 high school students and 10 adult leaders from Southeast Asia to Northern Illinois University for a three-week leadership program, operated by the Center for Southeast Asian Studies in collaboration with the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. As I shared the latest sobering data on global inequalities, I was amazed by their drive to take local action. These students didn't just listen - they came with thought-provoking questions! Their commitment to driving positive change on critical issues like gender equality, women's empowerment, sustainable economies, and more gives me so much hope. This generation of #EqualityChampions has the vision and potential to create a more equitable world for all people. Investing in initiatives like SEAYLP that uplift diverse youth voices is key to achieving true equality. I'm grateful to the organizers and the SEAYLP Team for the opportunity to play a small role in empowering these future changemakers.
