🚨Why Cardiology Practices Are Disappearing?🚨 This Cardiac Wire article highlights ongoing issues I see daily when speaking with physicians. Most of the providers I speak with are solely focused on delivering the best patient care they can, while trying to navigate an ever-changing healthcare landscape. 🌎 🩺 However, various issues are contributing to the rapid decline of private practice, typically revolving around financial pressures, physician burnout, and competition from larger health systems. Presently, these challenges are forcing private practices into the hands of private equity or hospital systems. In the article Todd mentions that due to these challenges, "Nearly 60% of all physician practices are now under hospital or corporate ownership." 🏥 Specifically, this decline is more severe in cardiology, "As estimates suggest that only 10k of the US’ 33k cardiologists remain in independent practices." Why Are Cardiology Practices Being Targeted? 1. Patient Population: As the population ages, the demand for cardiology services increase. 2. Fragmented Market: Competition and lack of synergy between physician in an extremely competitive specialty. 3. Opportunity & Potential: High reimbursements, referral generation, and opportunity for other investments (ACS, OBLs, other procedural labs) make cardiology highly attractive. 📈 What Can Be Done? In response to these challenges, CLS Health is making great strides against these issues by expanding our cardiovascular services, most recently by adding a new Electrophysiology (EP) practice. This coming shortly after the acquisition of Southeast Houston Cardiology and Clear Lake Cardiovascular Consultants making cardiology one of our largest service lines. With over 25+ providers in cardiology now, we plan to ensure our patients have access to comprehensive specialized care under one roof. As we strategically grow throughout the Houston area, we ensure to help physicians maintain their autonomy, build synergy between our physicians, and supply them with outstanding operational support. #healthcare #cardiology #privatepractice

In the latest issue, we’re diving into cardiology’s employment shift, and what the future holds for private practice cardiologists. https://lnkd.in/eJscKCPS

I have been a part of Texas Health Presbyterian Dallas for ten years and with Sound for seven. I want to welcome interest from physicians coming out of training or looking to make a career change. I want to share more about who we are and what we do - specifically about our people, practice, and purpose - as you consider your options. People We have a diverse group of physicians with various talents and skill sets. Our group tends to skew towards mid-career physicians, although we have a few newer grads. We work collaboratively with a healthy structure of work/home life balance and try very hard to separate rounding duties from admitting. Most doctors congregate in our shared workspace around lunchtime to take care of notes, bounce questions off each other, and discuss things outside of work. We ve structured our MDRs so that, Monday through Friday, we get a chance to interact with each other and other hospitalists during presentations, and it is a very collegial atmosphere.I m a firm believer in an open-door policy. I like interacting with my team members and helping fix issues in the current system. I value team members who want to contribute to the growth and health of the team. I admire doctors who stand up for one another and understand the group s needs. Doctors who are willing to listen and ask if they can do better. I strongly believe in giving physicians autonomy to do what they need to care for patients, but I won t hesitate to point out when things can be improved. We work hard as a group to achieve our shared goals, but we like to interact and discuss all the joys and headaches of life as a hospitalist. Everyone has a voice and freedom to speak up at our monthly team meetings or directly with me anytime. No one is expected to clock in, but there is a sense of responsibility in doing what is expected. We first started as a physician-owned group of hospitalists. We became part of a joint venture with Sound, and in 2019, Sound bought our group outright. What was attractive about Sound was the infrastructure and wealth of expertise they brought to hospital medicine and how it can be practiced and measured. I initially started as an associate medical director. When the medical directorship opened, I knew I was invested in seeing the group and the hospital thrive, so I moved into the role. Practice We are a large, diverse hospitalist group providing medical care to a growing population here in Dallas. What makes our group unique is the work-life balance we worked hard to cultivate. ARE YOU A NEW(ER) OD? ….I’d like to let you in on a secret. …Just because I care about optometry and it’s current trajectory. …What I am about to reveal will save you hours of time, money, and energy. …YOUR PATIENTS ARE NOT ON LINKEDIN. …I REPEAT…YOUR PATIENTS ARE NOT ON LINKEDIN. To build a busy successful practice has nothing to do with Social Media, especially LinkedIn. Focus your energy on your current patients, learn from them. Concentrate on your local community and your local medical community. What you do within the walls of your practice to improve yourself and how you manage real people, your patients, is the key to REAL success. It is so very simple. I hope this helps… -John (concerned and busy on the front lines) #stopandthink #pxinyourchair #ophthalmicphysician #privatepractice #optometry #optometrystudent #optometrist #optometrylife #medicalstudent #medicine #familymedicine #primarycare #physician #education

What specific knowledge or expertise does an internal medicine doctor lack compared to a physician assistant (PA) who specializes in cardiology? Why is it that when an internal medicine doctor refers a patient to a cardiologist for a consultation, the patient often ends up seeing a PA or nurse practitioner (NP) instead of the cardiologist themselves? I'd love to hear your thoughts or experiences on this. The truth is that the majority of the so-called multi-specialty groups in NYC operate just like that. No respect for the patients and their care, just the $$$. It is time to create real Multi-specialty groups in which the patients referred by the PCPs are only seen by the real specialists. To all the PAs and NPs out there, I love you, but you can't provide specialty care to patients. It's disheartening to see the patient's quality of care being compromised in such situations. I'm sure many of you share this sentiment. Let's open some real medical multi-specialty groups. Hospitals can't provide personalized and customized specialty care to outpatients because their systems are too big and overwhelming for patients to navigate. If any specialist wants to join the Nestmate health movement, please DM.
