Well said Isaac Korn! Also, I agree with comments that patternmaking knowledge using 3D apps is crucial for garment engineering. Leading fashion schools like FIT offer excellent Technical Design program that include traditional and 3D patternmaking, giving students the rightful impression that these skills are essential for their job searches. Unfortunately, many NYC companies still heavily rely on overseas factories/ 2D patternmakers and have yet to widely adopt 3D applications in their everyday workflow.

Right now these skills are so separated. You are either a fashion designer that understands design and product development or you are a 3D designer that only has knowledge of digital designs. It’s gonna come a time where one won’t exist without the other, and when these two paths merge, those designers that can do both will be better equipped to capitalize on opportunities.

Very well said Isaac Korn. 3D will help Designer create better products and in some complex categories it is a must and not just a need to learn.
