For most clubs, the sweet spot lies somewhere between recreational and competitive programming. As illustrated in the chart, focusing too heavily on beginners can lead to high acquisition costs, while catering exclusively to competitive players may result in diminishing returns and a loss of interest from the majority of potential members. #thebusinessofpickleball #pickleballbrief #sportsnewsletter #clubmanagement

Striking the perfect balance between beginner, recreational, and competitive programming isn’t easy. It requires a deep understanding of your target audience, market demand, and the unique dynamics of player progression. Focusing too heavily on one group, such as beginners or competitive players, can limit your club's growth and long-term sustainability. To succeed, you must create engaging activities that appeal to the diverse interests and abilities of your members. Read more on how to cater your business for all types of players in our newly released April update. Link in comments! #thebusinessofpickleball #pickleballbreif #indoorpickleball #sportsbusiness

A simple way to evaluate how inclusive our play sessions are: the participation rate/index. As part of training our HUNGERBALL Facilitators aka Game Masters, we set participation targets in terms of how many of those present actually step inside the arena and have a go, and if rotated out, go back in line for another turn. As a general guideline, a 80% participation suggests an inclusive delivery. On the other hand, if 30% or more sit it out, we encourage coaches to consider what may have got in the way and how to creatively improve at future events. This means that we may have a really inclusive event with only 5 or 6 participants going at it for 2 full hours while at other events we may have several dozens in but still fall short of including those who need us the most e.g. those who may be a bit shy or anxious to start with and may need extra support or encouragement. Or it may be that the games need to be adapted to lower the skill treshhold for being competent and equalise the playfield. As facilitators, when we hear feedback along the lines eg “so good to see thise who don’t usually engage with others or play sport playing for hours” that’s music to our ears and validation that our activity is truly inclusive, as would be reflected in the participation index. #hungerball #findyourgame #thepowerofplay #neverstopplaying

RefReps: Helping the WORLD see the game through the eyes of the officials. www.refreps.com FULL QUOTE: "An integral part of our strategic plan to develop officials is the partnership with RefReps. By working with RefReps, we have a curriculum which has proven to be an effective tool to help train officials & establish a firm foundation for their work in member schools. RefReps is an online officiating course which has been vetted & approved by the Kansas State Department of Education as an approved credit bearing Physical Education course. This online course covers the rules of sports, the positioning of the officials, & provides “live action” plays & corresponding calls made on the field. As this course is offered in member schools across Kansas, a pipeline of new officials has opened. This resource will help fill the void of officials & allow games to be played." #EdTech #Sports #Officiating #NextGenReferee #RefReps #Sportscontent NFHS
