Never accept a rejection as the final word on your film. My short "All That Remains" continues to find its place in festivals and I'm thrilled to announce it will screen at the Dark Red Film Festival in Albuquerque, New Mexico in spooky October! This film gets great reactions from crowds, but judges have a hard time seeing it for what it Is. This is partially my fault for making a genre-bending and mind-bending short. This is probably the last festival screening of "All That Remains" and it made me think about what it means to get your project out there. Regardless of submitting a final film to festivals, script to agents, or any other sort of process where your art will be scrutinized, you must give yourself the chance for success by allowing many opportunities for your film to be chosen. Not everyone will see your film for what it is and not everyone will pass you forward. There are many reasons you won't get selected and sometimes it is arbitrary why you aren't selected. The industry is fickle and as soon as someone is putting on their 'judge' cap they tend to think differently than a viewer who sits down after dinner for a fun viewing. A judges' bad day, different taste or distracted viewing could cause you to be rejected. You cannot control this. Continue to put your project out there and it will find legs, if there are any to be found. Keep creating new ideas! Don't stop developing your next idea while you are working on this one. Having the right project at the right time in front of the right eyes is the name of the game and you can only do that by doing two things: 1. Putting yourself and your project out there, over and over. 2. Creating new projects. Get out there and create!

Congratulations! Your film has made it into a major film festival! So, what now? The first order of business is to establish an open line of communication between you and the the theater or festival venue. You should also make sure your film is formatted properly for the sceeening. Ask the festival/theater if they want a Digital Cinema Package (DCP), Blu-Ray, or a digital file. If the theater/festival has the only copy of your DCP, ask for its return after the screening. Once you get to the festival there are lots of things to do before and after the screening. For example, you can ask to volunteer yourself, or if there’s a Q&A after the screening if you should be ready for that. REMEMBER: You are looking for as much exposure and publicity as possible and they need your help. Also, volunteering strengthens your relationship with the festival people and keeps you updated on upcoming events. Dress code should always be taken into consideration when attending film festivals. Keep in mind that some events are more formal than others. Leave postcards (smaller copies of your film’s poster) as well as your business cards on nearby tables. That way, people can learn more about you and your film. Keep in mind that you can stay as long as you like after the premiere, so take the opportunity to talk with the people who enjoyed your film. Who knows where it might lead! 😊 #film #filmmakers #filmfestivals

Film festivals serve as crucial platforms for filmmakers to showcase their work, providing opportunities for diverse voices and stories to be heard and appreciated. These events not only celebrate artistic achievement but also foster cultural exchange, creating a global dialogue through the universal language of cinema. One of the primary benefits of film festivals is their ability to spotlight emerging talent and innovative storytelling. By offering a stage to filmmakers who might otherwise struggle to gain recognition, festivals serve as launchpads for careers and ideas that push the boundaries of the medium. Moreover, film festivals contribute significantly to the cultural landscape by exposing audiences to perspectives and experiences they may not encounter in mainstream cinema. Through documentaries, international films, and niche genres, festivals broaden our understanding of the world and encourage empathy and understanding across borders. Additionally, these events provide invaluable networking opportunities for industry professionals, fostering collaborations and partnerships that drive the evolution of filmmaking. In essence, film festivals are essential pillars of the cinematic ecosystem, nurturing creativity, fostering diversity, and enriching our collective cultural tapestry. As we continue to navigate an increasingly interconnected world, the importance of these gatherings in celebrating and amplifying diverse voices cannot be overstated. Film Festivals on Social Media 🎬 The beginning of the year marks the season of film festivals. From the glitz and glam of the Oscars 🌟 to the prestigious moments of the BAFTAs 🏆 and the behind-the-scenes fun at the Emmys 🎥, each festival brings its own unique flavor to the table. The Oscars' social media accounts are all about nostalgia and glamour, often sharing #TBT (Throwback Thursday) posts that give a nod to iconic films, actors' looks, and moments that have defined decades of cinema. Their feed is an aesthetic dream that celebrates the artistry of film 📸. Meanwhile, the Emmys, for example, adopt a more relaxed demeanor, focusing on behind-the-scenes content that highlights the camaraderie and lighter moments of the event. Their social media presence is characterized by candidness and humor, providing a personal touch 📺😊. These varied strategies not only enhance the global film festival experience but also underscore the importance of social media in bringing the magic of cinema closer to fans 🍿🌟. Are you following any film festival profiles?

The importance of attending film festivals for new filmmakers! Having been in the film industry for a few years now, I’ve come to realize just how important it is to attend film festivals, especially if you’re a new filmmaker. When I first started out, I didn’t fully understand the value of these events. But over time, I’ve met countless filmmakers at festivals, many of whom I’ve gone on to collaborate with. These gatherings are a fantastic place to showcase your work, get feedback from an audience, and most importantly, connect with others who share your passion for filmmaking. As a new filmmaker, it’s easy to feel isolated, especially when you’re just starting out. But film festivals are where you can break out of that isolation and meet like-minded people who are just as passionate about storytelling as you are. I’ve found that the connections I’ve made at festivals have often led to opportunities I never would have imagined. Whether it’s finding someone who complements your skills or discovering a mentor who can guide you, these relationships are invaluable in helping you navigate the industry. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that you can’t make a film on your own—you need a team. Film festivals are the perfect place to start building that team. You’ll meet writers, directors, cinematographers, and actors who are all eager to collaborate. It’s not just about networking; it’s about finding people who believe in your vision and who can help bring it to life. That’s why, if you’re serious about making it in the film industry, attending festivals should be a priority. It’s where your filmmaking journey can truly begin. #filmfestivals #newfilmakeradvice #filmmakingtips
