Architecture is dually-faceted of Art and Engineering; As Art, these designs are "impressive"; However, as Engineering, I have some skeptics about these "marketing" designs; I shall critique these designs later.

This didn’t go well. Apparently over 2,500 temporary cooling units were ordered. The cynic in me wonders if this was more of a token PR gesture than a well considered piece of sustainable building design? The “sustainability” plan for those buildings is to continue to use them post olympics - so now the temporary units will be sent back and I assume consideration will be given to retrofitting a more suitable permanent AC solution? The most sustainable option is always getting it right first time isn’t it? Hindsight is wonderful but I’d imagine there was a decent pot of money from the off.

I was paging through the Sept. issue of Modern Steel Construction and saw that IDEA StatiCa was mentioned in one of the articles about a project in Philly. (OK, full disclosure I knew the article was coming.) The project had various design challenges including some connection designs that were impractical to be designed by standard methods.
