Check out our latest research published in Epilepsia, exploring the intricate relationship between epilepsy and frailty! Our study introduces a proposal to assessing frailty specifically tailored for epilepsy patients. Frailty in epilepsy goes beyond mere aging, influenced by factors like familial history, cognitive challenges, and medication regimens. Our research introduces a promising measurement tool with potential applications in predicting medication tolerance, aiding clinical research, assessing mortality risk, and informing surgical decisions. 🧠🩺 Read the full article in Epilepsia at https://lnkd.in/dcqEyT25 #Epilepsy #Frailty

Epilepsy is a neurological condition, often complex to diagnose and treat. For critically ill infants in the NICU, PICU, and CVICU, timely and accurate diagnosis of epilepsy is critical for effective treatment and care. Research shows that WGS/WES provides higher diagnostic yields compared to other methods, particularly for early-onset epilepsy and specific clinical features, providing substantial benefits for children aged 2-3 years. Baylor Genetics' WES and WGS offerings aim to end the diagnostic odyssey for patients with unexplained epilepsy, enabling informed patient care. Identifying stroke risk factors, such as chronic loneliness, is critical for improving health outcomes for stroke patients. Loneliness can look different for everyone, making a diagnosis elusive for on-site care teams who lack support from neurological experts. Read Dr. Jones' recent interview with Georgia Public Broadcasting and see why hospitals with neurology specialists can more readily identify patients with elevated stroke risks. https://lnkd.in/gZm2Jyt7

In #Sweden, the patients in this study would have been diagnosed with ”Functional Neurological Disorder” or ”Burn-out Depression”, or both. No one has any interest in neurological disease that demands more resources (testing & imaging) to diagnose, and lacks big-pharma incentives for drug developments. These patients are denied further evaluation and are then claimed by the psychiatry- and rehab health care industry. ”The ultrastructural damage of the collagen fibrils of the MDBs was distinct in patients with EDS, indicating a pathological mechanical laxity. In patients with EDS, ultrasound revealed increased cardiac pulsatory motion and irregular displacement of the spinal cord during head movements. Laxity of spinal cord suspension ligaments and the associated spinal cord motion disorder are possible pathogenic factors for chronic neck pain and headache in patients with EDS but without radiologically proven CCI.” https://lnkd.in/dmcTSjZx
