Pentagon unveils arctic strategy bolstered by new high north NATO allies Finland, Sweden - Breaking Defense "“The Arctic NATO Allies posses highly capable militaries, and thanks to longstanding cooperation, are all highly interoperable,” according to the strategy. “NATO’s enlargement, in addition to increasing Nordic defense cooperation, will create new opportunities for combined planning, information sharing, and exercises that will expand regional collaboration.” Arctic security is a growing area of concern. 🚀🛡 🌎 As modern warfare evolves, the strategic use and development of the #Space domain have become paramount in the process of enabling NATO, as #MultiDomain Alliance. This ensures not only advanced defence capabilities, but also a safer global future. Recently, NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT) welcomed General Devin Pepper as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Strategic Plans and Policy. He is the first United States Space Force General Officer to be assigned to NATO. In its mission to enable NATO as a Multi-Domain Alliance, NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT) is raising awareness about the importance of the Space domain. It is widely incorporating space considerations, possibilities, and threats into all aspects of Allied strategic warfare development. Additionally, it seeks to enhance engagement and cooperation with space-focused industries and academia. In the latest report published by the NATO Science & Technology Organization (STO), the SAS-143 takes a closer look at command and control harmonization arrangements, and those that would be most appropriate for multi-domain operations in a contested cyberspace environment. 21st Century NATO and member nation missions, to be successful, require that the capabilities of a variety of disparate entities be brought to bear, not only military ones. SAS-143 has explored how entities participating in these collective enterprises need to think beyond their traditional approaches to command and control to succeed in increasingly complex endeavors. Specifically, SAS-143 focuses on how Multi-Domain Operations (MDO) can be better managed or governed by drawing upon C2 theory as well as the concept of harmonization. Today's "Winter Is Coming" panel brought vital discussions on NATO's readiness and response strategies. Angus Lapsley CMG, NATO’s Assistant Secretary-General for Defence Policy, reaffirmed NATO's strong support for Ukraine, while Hanno Pevkur, Estonia's Minister of Defence, voiced concerns over the weakening European military strategy, stressing the need for fairness in defense efforts. Pål Jonson, Sweden's Minister of Defence, pointed out the strategic benefits of Sweden and Finland joining NATO, strengthening the Alliance’s northern defense and enhancing Arctic capabilities. Adding to that, Anders Carp, Deputy CEO of Saab, highlighted the crucial role of reliable defense technologies. The panel also addressed the growing threat of hybrid warfare, with Patrick Tucker and Phil Breedlove emphasizing Russia’s cyberattacks and information warfare as crucial challenges.
