Government #Curriculum and #Assessessment Review ** Call for Evidence now open ** 🔜 Closes 22nd November. I submitted mine this morning so thought I’d share a few insights about the process: 🕗 As you’d expect it’s a long form, free unlimited text responses across c50 specific questions. I added “I’m not sure” for any that are not relevant to my experience. If you want to do it in one sitting, and you’ve got plenty to say, you’ll need at least an hour, possibly two. ❗️You can “save and return to later” but I recommend you try this very early on to test it to prevent any loss of input. I did receive the dreaded “Oops something has gone wrong” message and had to start again! ➡️ There’s a big context preamble, so here’s a direct link: https://lnkd.in/d_zhDxiU A few key points from the Introduction: Every pupil, across all key stages, should have an experience of education that is both stimulating and enjoyable, and that provides them with the foundation and motivation to pursue lifelong learning. There is evidence to suggest that the school curriculum offer can have an impact on student satisfaction and wellbeing. The Review will seek to identify the most significant and pressing issues facing curriculum and assessment. We will focus on addressing these without destabilising the system, making changes where things are working well, or where there is insufficient evidence to warrant change. In short, we seek to bring about evolution, not revolution. We are keen to seek evidence from settings not required to follow the national curriculum on how they use their expertise and innovative practices to support children and young people to engage with the curriculum and assessment system. #headteachers #teachers #patoral #wellbeing #school #education #qualification

What is a Teaching Portfolio? 7 Great Resources to Use for Creating a Teaching Portfolio A teaching portfolio (or dossier) is a coherent set of material representing your teaching practice related to student learning. “Teaching practice” broadly extends beyond the obvious activities that go into teaching a course to include all activities that enrich student learning. Teaching portfolios vary considerably depending on their specific purpose, audience, institutional context, and individual needs. However, the body of a portfolio is generally about 5-8 pages long and is followed by appendices, which usually make up about 8-15 more pages. Your portfolio would likely include a summary of your teaching experience and responsibilities, a reflective statement of your teaching philosophy and goals, a brief discussion of your teaching methods and strategies, as well as activities undertaken to improve teaching, and a statement of goals and plans for the future. The appendices would consist of supplemental materials that further document or support the information you provide in the body of your portfolio. A course portfolio, which focuses on a single course, has many features and benefits in common with a teaching portfolio. Although we do not discuss course portfolios in this handbook, much of the information here can be applied to developing one. 1. At the forefront of inclusive education, a recent article highlights the importance of diversifying teaching methods in predominantly white institutions. The research emphasizes how traditional lecture formats often fail to engage students from diverse backgrounds, leaving many feeling disconnected from the learning material. By actively incorporating techniques such as small group discussions, authentic learning, and varied assessment options, educators can create a more inclusive environment that fosters meaningful participation and success. This approach not only supports BIPOC students but enriches the educational experience for everyone involved. What strategies have you found effective in diversifying your teaching methods? I would love to hear your insights! https://lnkd.in/gyvzR2Gw

As demand for higher online education continues to grow, it is becoming increasingly clear that online teaching presents unique challenges for adjunct faculty instructors. That's why it's essential to have resources to support online faculty. Christy Fraenza and Janine Allwright have contributed a chapter to an essential teaching handbook. The chapter is called "Considering the Differing Practical and Professional Needs of Adult Undergraduate Students in the Online Learning Environment," to be published later this month by IGI Global. This handbook is a valuable resource for all online faculty who want to improve their teaching skills and meet the needs of their students. #onlineeducation #highereducation #adjunctfaculty #adjunctprofessor #teachinghandbook #highered #elearningdevelopment #elearning #elearningsolutions #adultlearning #adulteducation #igiglobal #walden
