I am looking forward to hearing the inaugural Will Steffen Lecture this evening. It will be delivered by a colleague of Will's, Professor Dr Johan Rockströmm (Director at the PIK - Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research and Professor in Earth Sciences from the University of Potsdam). I only worked with Will very briefly but it was a pleasure to know this thoroughly decent man. #heroesofscience
There are certain individuals whose incredible legacies live long beyond them. Emeritus Professor Will Steffen is one such person. The ANU climate scientist, who lost his battle to pancreatic cancer last year, will be honoured by the University at the inaugural Will Steffen Lecture. Professor Dr Johan Rockströmm - who worked with Professor Steffen to develop the Planetary Boundaries framework – will deliver the address. His speech will be followed by remarks from some of Professor Steffen's close colleagues, who will celebrate and reflect on the impact of his remarkable life.
