Russell Marine LLC helps transform the shores of Galveston, #Texas. The Galveston Berth 10 Marine Improvements Project was a visionary initiative that set the stage for Royal Caribbean's new cruise ship terminal, making it possible for the largest Oasis Cruise Ship Class to moor at Galveston. The project was designed to avoid obstructions and avoid causing any damage to existing structures. Russell Marine LLC had to remove sections of the existing concrete wharf to unearth each dolphin location, and then probe all proposed pile locations to avoid the battered piles of the existing land-side bulkhead. Based on the probe, eight of the 20 dolphins had to be redesigned. Avoiding the existing wharf battered piles was the largest technical challenge that the engineer, Jacobs Engineering Group of Cape Canaveral, Fla., had to overcome. Due to the uncertainty of the pile alignment, drilled shafts or other means of deep foundations ran the risk of damaging adjacent structures. Driven pipe piles are also best suited to the high salinity content of the Texas Gulf Coast.
