PIMCO’s Global Month of Volunteering (GMV) recurs each July with many opportunities across our offices to support local nonprofits and communities worldwide. While GMV allows us to collectively make a more meaningful impact, our continuous efforts are of steadfast importance to our work, teams and clients. A prime example of PIMCO’s community-minded culture is Managing Director John Kirkowski, who brings his private sector expertise and strong belief in aiding social progress to his philanthropic endeavors, especially in his role as an OneOC Board Member. John and OneOC’s partnership is rooted in a common goal – to provide the solutions and support that empower nonprofits and companies in their charitable services. With John’s lead, PIMCO colleagues have been able to demonstrate #SharedBonds through various volunteer initiatives, like the OneOC Community Cup and PIMCO Beach Cleanup events. As we launch #GMV2024, we celebrate leaders like John, who abundantly gives his time and resources to an organization advancing other nonprofits and empowers volunteers to share their time and talent with our communities.

This week is #volunteersweek and at Action West London we not only value volunteers that work with us but also encourage our clients to gain work experience through volunteering. Our chair of Trustees Tony Coyne recently talked about the importance of volunteering in local charities in his monthly blog post, here are some key points from that blog: 1. Local volunteers have a deep understanding of the unique needs and challenges facing their community. This insight allows charities to tailor their services to address specific issues effectively. 2. When people come together to support a common cause, it fosters a sense of unity and purpose. Volunteering creates opportunities for individuals to form relationships and strengthen social networks, which can lead to more resilient communities. 3. Volunteering can empower individuals by providing them with a platform to use and develop their skills. This can boost self-esteem and contribute to personal growth, which in turn benefits the community as a whole. 4. Local community volunteers are more likely to stay committed to a cause over the long term, ensuring sustained support and impact for charities. Charities, localism, and community volunteering are all interlinked and play an important role in shaping strong, vibrant, and supportive communities. By working together, these components can create lasting positive change and enhance the well-being of individuals and families in the community. Read the full blog at https://buff.ly/4aO77Un

Leveraging Community Engagement to Build a Successful Nonprofit For nonprofits, community engagement isn’t just a nice-to-have; it’s essential for success. Think of it like this: a nonprofit isn’t just about having a great cause; it’s about rallying people around that cause. Take a local animal shelter, for example. The more the shelter engages with the community through events, volunteer opportunities, and outreach, the more support it garners. This not only helps in spreading the word but also in building a loyal network of donors, volunteers, and advocates. Effective community engagement turns a nonprofit from an idea into a movement. It’s about creating a sense of ownership and involvement among community members, making them passionate supporters who contribute time, resources, and energy to drive the mission forward. #communityengagement #nonprofit #changemakers #communityinvolvement #supportlocal #giveback #activism #spreadtheword #volunteerpower

Volunteers’ Week 2024 is a time to celebrate and inspire. Over the years Englobe UK are proud of our previous efforts within the charitable sector adding to our overall year on year Social Value initiatives. We believe volunteering is a net positive for society and companies - a win-win on both sides of the table. The benefits of volunteering go far beyond the feel-good factor that it gives you. It’s an activity that can transform who you are at the core of your being, benefiting the communities in which we live, work and play. We look forward to supporting and encouraging our employees to use their extra day’s annual leave per year to volunteer their time. #VolunteersWeek #SocialValue #EnglobeUK #Englobe #ExcellentPeople #GreatPlaceTowork #ProudOfOurWork #Remediaion #RemediationContractor #SoilTreatmentFacilities #BrownfieldContracting #EnablingWorks #IntegratedEnvironmentalServices #InfrastructureProjects #CivilEngineering #HealthandSafety

A renewed focus on trust-based philanthropy can revolutionize how we approach corporate social responsibility in volunteering and civic engagement. Points of Light is leading the charge through initiatives like our Corporate Service Council, where cutting-edge thinking and meaningful dialogue happen among key stakeholders, including our partners in this work, John Brothers and Briana Dorules. By convening industry leaders and facilitating important conversations, we ensure volunteering and civic engagement remain strong and impactful. On our recent call, we discussed how trust-based philanthropy is an approach to giving that addresses the inherent power imbalances between funders, nonprofits, and the communities they serve. At its core, trust-based philanthropy is about redistributing power—systemically, organizationally, and interpersonally—in service of a healthier and more equitable nonprofit ecosystem. Leaning into the benefits of trust-based philanthropy presents the opportunity to strengthen how volunteering is positioned to create a more equitable and engaged society. How are you engaging in community-based solutions in your philanthropic engagement?
