👩⚕️In a world where doctors are constantly giving their all to take care of others, it's important to remember that they also need support and care themselves. Peer support provides a safe and confidential space for doctors to seek help and guidance from their colleagues. This empathic approach not only meets the needs of doctors, but also helps cultivate a stronger and healthier medical community. Let's give a big 👏 to peer support. #peersupport #empathy #mentalhealth #doctorsupport #healthcareheroes

Making and holding boundaries is a topic of conversation weekly (if not daily) in my clinical practice. As helpers, many of us (clinicians, first responders, medical personnel) can struggle with taking care of ourselves and not trying to be everything to everyone (which I’ve been guilty of a few times). Consider what you’ve been noticing lately, possibly making excuses for/ignoring that may be your body’s hint that it’s time for a change #mastinkipp #boundaries #mentalhealth #firstresponders #burnoutprevention

Have you ever visited a doctor seeking help, only to leave feeling unheard, dismissed, or even doubting your own experiences? If so, you may have encountered a troubling phenomenon known as 'medical gaslighting.' It's a pervasive issue where patients' concerns are downplayed, minimized, or outright ignored by healthcare providers, leaving them feeling invalidated and confused. Who to Turn to When This Happens to You: If you find yourself in a situation where you suspect you're being medically gaslit, it's crucial to know that you're not alone, and there are steps you can take. 1) First and foremost, trust your instincts and advocate for yourself. 2) Seek a second opinion from another healthcare professional who will listen to your concerns with empathy and take them seriously. 3) Consider reaching out to patient advocacy groups or support networks where others may have shared similar experiences and can offer guidance and support. If this has happened to you or someone you care about, please reach out. Share this with a friend if you're concerned for them. Together we can make a difference. #gaslighting #medicine #mentalhealth

Last week, I had the privilege of meeting with some seniors from a local assisted living community. During our conversation, they shared one of their primary concerns - being shut out of the conversations when they go to the doctor. But here's the good news - we identified a great solution! Making a list of questions prior to going to the doctor can help you stay focused on your concerns and ensure that they are addressed during your visit. This can include questions about medications, changes in your physical or mental status, and more. By preparing a list of questions, you can help steer the conversation towards your needs, making sure that it is a conversation with the doctor, rather than just about you. Let's make sure that our seniors feel heard and valued during their medical visits. #seniorcare #seniorwellness #solutionoriented

Huge news from the NAMSS - National Association Medical Staff Services. The Hidden Key to Health Outcomes The real challenge isn’t just the experiences we go through, but how they’re processed—or not processed—over time. Children who face trauma without support carry those unprocessed experiences into adulthood, affecting their health later on. What’s alarming is that many medical professionals are unaware of the ACES study, which reveals these crucial connections. Even when educating doctors at major facilities like Kaiser Permanente, some still haven’t heard of it. Screening new patients, it's important to dive into their early life experiences to understand their health better. Sometimes it’s met with surprise, but knowing this can make a huge difference in healing. #ACESTudy #TraumaHealing #HealthOutcomes #MindBodyConnection #MedicalAwareness
