Opportunities and achievements that align with our desires and aspirations are more likely to come our way when we actively work towards them. While it's comforting to believe that what is meant for us will find us, taking action and pursuing our goals greatly increases the chances of success. Waiting passively for things to happen may lead to missed opportunities, whereas actively seeking and working towards our goals increases our readiness to seize opportunities when they arise. So, while there may be a degree of fate or destiny involved, our efforts play a crucial role in shaping our outcomes. Yesterday I completed my longest ever posting streak on LinkedIn. Here’s how I’m going to celebrate… Firstly, what did I learn? - watching my LinkedIn feed is like standing on the side of a motorway, everything just whizzes by so fast - people are busy and so it’s easy to not notice you - engagement goes two ways - having someone with clout engage can seriously boost your visibility I learned a lot more. But the most important thing for me was consistency. I’ve found it hard to be consistent in the past because of the cognitive load. So many different things to think about before I post: - what’s my motivation? - how should it be structured - what should I write After doing David Hieatt’s microblogging course 30 days ago I was inspired to put in place what I needed: - an intention - a structure - permission to think out loud And so I pulled together what I’ve learned from various people on this platform: - David Hieatt and his layout structure for posts - Tad Hargrave and his Island A and Island B ideas - Sam Browne 🦖 and his beautiful guides about LinkedIn - Robbie Swale and his 12 minute method for writing - Toby Moore and his content canvas - Joe Gannon and his ideas for hooks *THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR KNOWLEDGE! And I curated my own process. A process that gives me some simple and clears steps for creating. And focuses my energy on ideas and frees me up to play and follow my curiosity. It’s helped me a lot. And now having posted for 30 days straight I feel equipped to keep going. Key outcomes? - I’ve grown my list of followers steadily - I’ve discovered new people and ideas - I’ve written so much more than I’d normally But ultimately I’ve created a habit that feels sustainable. I’ve also got a much larger body of work to draw on when creating new things and serving others. I’ve put all that I’ve learned into this guide for you. It’s a curation of approaches that I feel work well together. If you’d like to create a similar habit yourself and make it feel enjoyable then I hope this guide helps. I can't believe I've never done this before 😳 (And I should've done it day one). Believe it or not, I've never introduced myself on LinkedIn... And it's long overdue. Sooo hey besties! I'm your friendly, neighborhood Story Coach and Brand Strategist. I currently work full time in tech sales, and I've been creating content on LinkedIn since August 2023 (minus two months where I fell off). I just celebrated my 2nd anniversary to my wonderful hubby, and I have two awesome stepsons who both graduated high school last year! LinkedIn has been a fun but bumpy ride these past 6 months 👇🏽 August → Made my first official Post September → Got sick and stopped posting October → Still sick and felt like giving up on everything. November → Started to turn my health around and jumped back in. December → Launched my coaching program & signed two 4-figure clients. January → Hit 2,500 followers and launched a new digital product! I'm a huge advocate for newer creators on LinkedIn as I know growing a brand can be hard AF when: — You don't know where/how to start. — Everyone arounds you seems to grow at light speed. — You're not sure how to write content people actually want to read. And I'm constantly writing content to help you get better at 1. Writing on LinkedIn 2. Telling better stories 3. Optimizing your brand And more! Squeezing every last minute out of summer… ☀️ Yesterday, I hit a bit of a mental block. After spending most of the morning in our windowless office I decided to get out and get some fresh air with Cooper for a reset. Not realising how sunny it was (back to the windowless office), I ended up sitting down on the grass, taking a moment to soak it all in. It made me realise then that lately I haven’t taken the time to just pause and notice what’s around me - or how far we’ve came in just two short months… Starting a new business it’s been all go, coming up with new ideas, managing admin, bank accounts, making sure we have enough money to pay bills/studio rent, being present on social media —not to mention trying to make time for friends, family, working out, and eating and sleeping well... With all of that going on, it’s easy to forget we’re actually doing something pretty cool - and doing a decent job at it. We’ve signed new clients, found new ways to promote our business, met amazing people, and celebrated their successes. So why aren’t we celebrating our own? In a corporate setting milestones are marked and celebrated. But when you’re self-employed, it’s easy for those moments to slip by. So I’m making a point to celebrate the wins, big or small—whether it’s hitting a financial target or just making it through another day of battling with Meta Business Suite—a win’s a win. Before I knew it, an hour had passed, and Cooper and I had spent it in the park, watching the world go by, with a few new content ideas in mind. So here’s your reminder: take a moment to appreciate where you are and celebrate your wins — they’re worth it. You know, that thing that happens when you’re meeting someone for the first time, and then they make the statement? The one that makes the hair stand up on your neck, giving you chills all over and making you unsettled to the core? It’s that one dreaded statement where as soon as it’s hanging in the air, you’ve forgotten everything you’ve ever done in your life. “So, tell me about yourself.” And then everything stops, and your mind goes blank as if to say, “I am an idea, a concept, if you will,” when in reality, it’s more like, “I can’t even remember my name right now, let alone my history and experience." I get it, it happened to me all the time. Still does. Partly because I hardly had a voice, I hardly stood up for myself or showed up for myself, and aside from the things I’ve done to get me to where I am today, it’s hard to remember all the things I’ve learned, tested, tried at, failed, scrapped, wanted to pick back up, and well, you get it. Now, I can just refer them (or myself) to my LinkedIn. Kidding. But when I started thinking about how I wanted to be seen and posting on LinkedIn, a sort of vision came into view. I felt more confident in my work, and in what I wanted to do. I felt comfortable speaking out and speaking on, and now I have a backlog of the things I’ve done, which only continues to grow. There’s a clear vision of the road ahead, at least, for now. Also, I cannot stress enough, I’ve met the coolest people on here, I’ve consumed the content of amazing creators, and I know there’s magic ahead. (Come see what’s brewing!)
