An obvious but difficult truth: parents' screentime habits have a significant impact on their tweens. More parental screentime (presumably even for work) is strongly associated with problematic social media and video game use by their kids. The lead researcher gives some tips for building healthier screen habits: 1. Commit to screen-free meal times and bedtime. The #1 thing you can do to avoid problematic screen use is limit screens at bedtime (for kids and adults). 2. Set tech boundaries and limits. Around 70% of parents do this already. 3. Avoid using screentime as a punishment or reward for behavior. Paradoxically It turns out that doing so is associated with higher problematic screen use.
