Right at the beginning of the Core Digital Measures of Sleep project we wanted to know the key questions that needed anwsering. That included patients, care partners and professionals opinions were needed. But we didnt just want to have a meeting and have done with it - we wanted others to be able to learn what we went and learned. We put together a set of lessons to help us focus and to help the field. https://lnkd.in/g9qMX_xu Digital Medicine Society (DiMe)

The power of contemplative medicine Contemplative medicine is fundamentally about learning to slow down and truly listen. This practice involves taking a deliberate pause, which many of us feel we don't have time for in our busy schedules. However, even within the constraints of a typical three-minute clinician visit, there's significant potential for meaningful interaction. The essence of contemplative medicine lies in being fully present in the moment, both for oneself and for the patient. It's about cultivating an awareness that enables clinicians to connect deeply with their patients, even in a brief encounter. This presence can transform the clinical interaction, making it more effective and compassionate. Moreover, it’s important to reflect on the true meaning of the word “medicine.” Over time, it has often been distanced from its original connotations of healing and care. Contemplative medicine seeks to restore this connection, emphasizing the humanistic aspects of medical practice. By integrating mindfulness and presence into their routine, clinicians can create a more holistic and healing environment for their patients. Mind-body medicine combines a variety of mind, body, and behavioural therapies to help enhance patient health. It is based on the idea that the mind can help influence the body, and that the body can also help influence the mind. Mind-body medicine is often used to help people cope with things like stress, anxiety, pain, and trauma. It is also used to help people manage their illnesses and improve their overall quality of life. At HWT, we want to help more people learn about mind-body medicine and its role in Integrative Healthcare. That’s why we offer online courses to both health professionals and the general public. BAYLOR UNIVERSITY PUBLISHES LARGEST STUDY EVER ON MASSAGE THERAPY USE July 2024 "Many people receive massage therapy and for many reasons. But according to a new study – the largest and most comprehensive ever conducted on the subject – the prevalence of visits to massage therapists is higher than one might have imagined and the reasons may be surprising." “What our study shows is that it’s probably not helpful any longer to label massage as an ‘alternative’ therapy, with all of the marginality that the term conveys.” “Licensed massage therapists ought to be respected as mainstream practitioners, whose profession provides a therapeutic approach not just to address pain and functional challenges but to foster wellness and overall well-being, physical and emotional. Everyone can benefit from working with a skilled massage therapist. They’re the hidden gems in the healthcare system.” - Jeff Levin, Ph.D., M.P.H., University Professor of Epidemiology and Population Health. (Robert Rogers/Baylor University) Study Link: Journal of Science & Healing Prevalence & Determinants of Massage Therapy Use in the US https://lnkd.in/eSgyBKTj https://lnkd.in/eAE6A6Kv

WARNING OF SENSITIVE CONTENT. 🤣Laughter Rx for Sunday🤣 If you are allergic to humor, laughter or mental relaxation, please move on and do not watch. Disclaimer: I am not against multiculturism, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives but have concerns about the methods of implementation & promotion of #DEI, selectivity of promoted DEI elements, and their burdens, in medicine. Using humor as a language, the video shares my concerns. I bet it will be a good relaxation tool for burned out physicians. Relaxed physicians promote patient safety, don't you agree? Video source: X. See my timeline for the exact source. #physicians #medicine #healthcare
