Two things I feel passionately about, together and worthy of celebration! Love to see women taking on more roles in the energy sector, making our planet a happier, healthier place! And as a minority woman who owns two businesses myself, it makes me especially happy to see more women breaking boundaries and entering fields where they are not the majority. #womeninenergy #womenownedbusiness #minorityownedbusiness #lumixcpa #cpa

We stand on the shoulders of giants – scientists like Marie Curie and pioneers like Amelia Earhart, activists like Rosa Parks and Malala Yousafzai, artists like Frida Kahlo, and visionaries like Oprah Winfrey. These women, and countless others, dared to go against the expectations placed upon them. Their contributions have changed our world in science, business, politics, arts, and beyond. Yet, the fight for true equality continues. Let's use this day not only to celebrate women's achievements. But also to recommit to creating a world where all women and girls have the opportunity to reach their full potential. #100FemaleRoleModels

Yesterday I had the pleasure of joining in a thought-provoking discussion hosted by Sarah Merriot from Wallace LLP & Caroline Boston from New Minds in honour of International Women's Day. This year's theme, #inspireInclusion, set the stage for the conversation that touched on various aspects of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) focusing on SMEs. The discussion was broad and led onto the evolving landscape of hybrid working and flexibility, especially post-pandemic. The room had a variety of participants who shared some great examples of how their businesses are reinforcing commitments to gender neutral DE&I policies. I was struck by how progressive and inclusive these were, from additional paid dependent days, 9-day fortnights to Kudos points systems linked to values and support the DE&I policy. Some businesses are reverting to more face time in the office, for a multitude of reasons. On the one hand there was some debate to suggest that this compromised commitments to the DE&I policy, however others suggested that without this facetime there was an adverse effect on collaboration, continuous learning, and the learning opportunities for those joining the workforce. There was also an important point raised about the benefits that we as social beings feel with regards to our mental health by regularly working in an office environment. Therefore, SMEs need to think about striking the right balance to reap the benefits but also promote the brand and DE&I. It was refreshing to hear that some businesses were trying to attract a wider inter-generational pool of talent back into work, encouraging return to work schemes and initiatives to enable diversity, equity and inclusion. Some practical ideas were also shared where SMEs were creating an environment where people felt more comfortable to have “open calendars” and were vocally championing flexible working. What really stood out was the consensus around the room on role modelling which then sparked some 1-2-1 discussion around behaviours and values that businesses could embody. Having an environment of trust, keeping an open mind that “one size does not fit all” and an appreciation of how enabling initiatives are perceived came through as the key themes. Another take away included that, deep organisational thinking will be needed to encourage how DE&I policy evolves and how the notion is embedded into the culture of a firm. #InternationalWomensDay2024 #inspireInclusion #thepowerofconversation #positivechange #DE&I #iwd2024

Empowering Women, Building Connections: In April, we proudly hosted our ‘Planning for the Future: The Creation and Protection of Wealth for Women in Business’ event. Female founders, advisers, and investors came together to share insights, network, and inspire one another. This marked the third event in our series dedicated to creating a global network of women in leadership roles. For us, financial literacy within the female community is crucial to achieving gender equity across society. A heartfelt thank you to our exceptional panellists - Sarah Wigington, Nicola Thorpe, Tess Newman, and Chloe Stages ACSI - for their valuable contributions on exit strategies, wealth protection, and future planning. As we come to the close of National Women's History Month, I'd like to take a moment to celebrate the unique theme for 2024: Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity & Inclusion. This theme celebrates women across the nation who recognize the necessity of eradicating bias and discrimination from our lives and institutions for a better future. Women from diverse backgrounds have long understood that an unfair playing field cannot lead to equality or justice. Throughout 2024, let's pay tribute to local women, both historical and contemporary, who have boldly led the charge for change and established stronger protections, practices, and legislation aligned with these principles. Who are the women in your community or organization that you will honor?
