It’s easy to just tell your children when and where it's safe to cross the road, but encouraging them to be more aware of roads and traffic by getting them to tell YOU when and where they think it's safe to cross, helps to develop the skills they'll need to be a safer independent pedestrian. Whenever you're out walking with your children, why not use the simple activities and ideas in our Footsteps guide to help them begin to learn how to be safer near roads and traffic. Out walking with your children this weekend? To help you see the road and traffic from your child’s perspective, bend down to their height to see exactly what they can and can't see. Ask your child whether drivers will be able to see you better when you're at their height or when you're stood up. Use this to help them see why they're safer walking next to an adult or holding an adult’s hand. Ask them who should be walking nearest to the road and why. The last c.18 months has at times been a difficult path to navigate, it all started when my wife collapsed due to a brain haemorrhage and needing life saving surgery. It goes without saying that the team around me, and still to this day the ongoing support has been fantastic, an area where the military excel with their people. This led to undecisiveness about which way my military career would take us. After getting through the most important part of recovery I decided to terminate my service and look at the transition leap, to move on and break into something else…..that was until my wife decided to convince me otherwise! The fear of the unknown is a huge part of the desicion process, that coupled with living with the regret of not doing something is a powerful emotion. This took me to withdrawing my notice and swiftly putting in my application to commission (the regret of not doing so sits here). With preparation afoot, today I was unsuccessfull at the filter board. Disappointed? I’m unsure, I put it in and was ready for the challenge(s) that were to come, but I can say I tried and put it to bed, “what’s for you won’t pass you by”. My time in the military comes to an end in 2027 service complete. Therefore, we move onto the next chapter with whatever comes and we navigate that the same way we have everything so far, taking time to analyse the opportunities that could come and seize them when/if they do. A long winded post I know, but it has taught me alot about how we deal with difficult times we all face. Allow people in that want to help, take the support that is there (in service or out) adjust your mindset and understand that not everything is there for the taking, prepare for negative outcomes but find the positives within. Once you can master this, along with a myriad of other processes you can develop a mindset that is positive and you will be surprised at what you can do. Onwards and upwards 👍 #positivemindset #support #goals #workhard #opportunities #military #welfare
