The rapid growth of cities in #Africa has a detrimental effect on the quality of life within the cityscapes due to eradication of vegetation to pave the way for buildings. This in most cases creates heat islands. Roof gardens are a noteworthy undertaking in dealing with this phenomenon in addition to improving the aesthetic value of the city/building. We are at the preliminary design stages of this 22 storey high Mixed Use Development in Monrovia #Liberia which has roof gardens for this specific reason #greenbuildings #sustainablearchitecture #mixedusedevelopment

Breathing new life into four historic warehouses, The Waterman is a testament to what’s possible with thoughtful design and innovation. Working with BGO and Fathom we united four Victorian warehouses, overcoming challenges like a loadbearing masonry structure, varying floor levels, and Conservation Area requirements, to deliver a seamless 70,000 sq ft workspace. Key to the project was retaining the building’s heritage while reimagining it for modern use. By repurposing 5,000 bricks, incorporating low-carbon materials, and reusing three tonnes of glass for terrazzo countertops, we significantly reduced the carbon footprint while respecting its history. The addition of two new levels, including a rooftop terrace with panoramic views, provides the perfect balance of functionality and aesthetic charm. Natural ventilation, smart lighting, and biophilic touches like wildflower habitats ensure the building is innovative and inviting. We are excited to share more about this landmark project over the coming months. #Ambit #TheWaterman

In a rapidly evolving urban landscape, the importance of community-centric housing design cannot be overstated. As architects, we are responsible for creating spaces that foster inclusivity and a sense of belonging. Designing housing beyond individual units to incorporate shared spaces, such as gardens, courtyards, and communal areas, is critical to nurturing vibrant communities. These spaces become the heart of urban neighbourhoods, where residents can interact, collaborate, and build lasting relationships. By integrating thoughtful planning, pedestrian-friendly zones, and versatile recreational areas, we can transform housing developments into dynamic ecosystems that prioritise human experiences, where people can feel connected and engaged. This approach is essential for creating thriving urban communities — where everyone feels a sense of belonging. #UrbanDesign #CommunityLiving #HousingDevelopment #Architecture #UrbanPlanning #GPMArchitects

🏢 Beaulieu: Harmony between Demolition and Conservation Atenor and AG Real Estate in collaboration with the BMA are delighted to present a real estate initiative designed by a2o, VELD and Kollektif Landscape for their project Beaulieu. This challenging development for residential housing balances demolition and preservation. 💡 The southern bays of the building retain the original architectural elements, while the northern bays benefit from new openings and volumes. The atrium is transformed into an interior street. Vis-à-vis between dwellings is avoided thanks to an ingenious double orientation. 💡The residential typologies are diversified, with adaptable programming for flats, offices, and co-living spaces. 💡The building's post-modern architecture has been reinterpreted with brick accents, giving it an attractive residential character. A large bicycle storage area on the ground floor provides easy access to the future urban boulevard. This development is highly praised for its coherent integration of constraints and its adaptive reuse approach. We look forward to seeing this initiative contribute to a sustainable and dynamic urban future. #AdaptiveReuse #Preservation #Sustainable #DynamicUrbanFuture.
