A real pleasure and privilege to be invited back to Bolton School to deliver the 51st Tillotson Lecture. Great to see the school really flourishing, meet the pupils and share ‘5 Lessons to my Younger Self’: 1) Have faith in your own ability: When you hit a challenging moment in your life or career, or you feel completely out of your comfort zone, have the courage to back yourself. 2) Don’t be afraid to lead: And the only way to Lead is from the front and by example. 3) It’s never too late to alter course: You own the narrative of your life. 4) Find a Mentor: And when you find that mentor do everything to repay the faith they have shown in you, and the results can be transformative 5) You cannot have success without failure: Failure is an inevitable part of the climb to the peak… and it’s how we deal with setbacks that dictates whether they are terminal or temporary, and defines us as a person Link to Speech: https://lnkd.in/diKpTcGT #boltonschool #boltonschoolalumni

It’s beginning to be college graduation time and I love to revisit some of my favorite graduation speeches. Conan Obriens speech to the Dartmouth class of 2011 always inspires me. One key quote to remind you all today: “No specific job or career goal defines me and it should not define you. In 2000, I told graduates to not be afraid to fail, and I still believe that. But today I tell you that whether you fear it or not, disappointment will come. The beauty is that through disappointment you can gain clarity, and with clarity comes conviction and true originality.” Full video below… https://lnkd.in/gF7r5ygE

In this year’s issue of Torch magazine, Havergal’s Principal, Dr. Katrina Samson, outlines why she encourages all students to get involved in athletics. “Outside of the benefits of learning critical skills such as physical literacy, teamwork and collaboration, discipline, time management, resilience and perseverance, athletics and sport also contribute to academic success. Athletics have also been proven to bolster learning by allowing students to develop and embody a growth mindset. Think back to the first time you swam or learned to ride a bike. You likely didn’t expect perfection right away. The idea of, “I can’t do this yet” is what a growth mindset is all about. The more practical examples we can give students of working at something in order to achieve success, the better prepared they’ll be to tackle difficult academic challenges.” Learn more in the Message from the Principal, “The Power of Play.” https://bit.ly/4f7mQ3s

Promoting family goals is so heartwarming <3
The foundation you carry becomes the anchor that grounds you. ⚓ Paul’s story is a testament to the fact that there’s no expiration date for achieving educational excellence. “I did not do that well in high school. It wasn’t until college where I was able to apply myself.” Not only did his potential reach new heights, but he also made the Dean’s List multiple times and graduated with a 3.9 GPA. Balancing fatherhood with studies, Paul mastered the art of focus and prioritization. 📸 Paul K. (BSLS, ′23)
