As we approached "The Bachelor" finale last week, we thought about how New Orleans' Kelsey Anderson had captured the hearts of many people across America and in Louisiana. And many of those people were likely audiences we don't often reach, if at all. So we tested something: What if we treated the "Bachelor" finale like a massive event like the Super Bowl? What if we looked for every opportunity to give audiences across the U.S. a new headline, and updated them about what was happening in real-time if they didn't have access to ABC or Hulu Live? The result: Led by Julia Guilbeau, we produced five stories in 24 hours, one of those being a live updates folder that reported what Daisy, Kelsey and Joey were up to on the finale and where things stood. That live updates story generated more than 21,000 page views in four hours, most of the traffic coming from search. In total, our coverage of "The Bachelor" finale overperformed, garnering nearly 100,000 page views. One thing I firmly believe is that news is a kaleidoscope of things and topics and types of stories and visuals, and that they all come together to create one exquisite piece of art that matters to communities. Intense, fast coverage of "The Bachelor" isn't silly mattered to many and has immense value, and is just one piece of the incredible work journalists produce at The Times-Picayune | Nola.com, including top-notch investigative, in-depth and enterprise reporting you won't find anywhere else in Louisiana.
