Despite a decade of statewide improvements to infrastructure, the percentage of Pennsylvania bridges in poor condition is still nearly double the national average, according to a recently released report. Researchers at TRIP, a national transportation research group, found that 2,835 of the 22,043 of bridges across the state — about 13% — were in poor condition. The national average is 7%.

Thoroughly enjoyed speaking with Kathryn Ryan on RNZ this morning about all things infrastructure and the many objectives and ambitions we have - that are ultimately enabled by the assets we choose to invest in. We covered a fair bit of terrain in this one including #populationgrowth, #distributedx, #institutions, #regulation, #affordability, decision-making under uncertainty, #landprotection, non-built solutions, #costmanagement, #maintenance and more. It hopefully provides a bit of a picture into some of the many issues shaping our work on the development of a long-term National Infrastructure Plan.

For example, climate adaptations as part of municipal planning can both increase resiliency and preserve resources. Infrastructure improvements require strategic planning and long-term capital investment arrangements, including securing financing opportunities, negotiating contracts, and navigating regulatory guidance.
