What does the future hold for the agri sector and the food on our plates? And what does it mean for the sector’s participants and investors? Robert Berendes, Executive Partner of Flagship Pioneering and longtime industry executive and investor sets out his views on the paradigm shifts the sector is going through. Robert summarises the following three paradigms that he is experiencing/ expecting in the food & agriculture industry : 1. a shift from arable land expansion to agricultural productivity 2. the price of food actually decreasing in the long-run 3. the important role of decommoditization (It means presenting fresh products not just as a commodity with no measurable differences between one another, but as a special, unique item which incorporates product valorisation, provenance, distinct taste and sustainability.) The technological innovations we are seeing and the general drive to sustainability that so many individuals, businesses and countries are following, will lead to our world getting more out of our land-use today in the future, than we do today, and that must be acknowledged - everything takes time. One of the key developments that will continue to drive the transformation of this industry is the right combination between experience industry players that have been around for decades and see the, the weaknesses of the system from within and have the willingness to change it, in combination with the injection of new talent from other industries. And of course a next generation of leaders coming in with their own ideas and ambitions, vision of for change and optimization.

🚀 Unlocking Economic Potential with the 80/20 Rule! 🚀 The podcast features a father-and-son duo, the father being the renowned Dato Sri Idris Jala. Among the numerous episodes, one particularly stands out where he discusses his laboratories and the application of the Pareto principle. His methodical approach to economic transformation zeroes in on the most significant factors. From twelve economic sector laboratories, encompassing oil & gas, agriculture, and electronics, among others, the focus was placed on pivotal activities and projects that contribute the most value to the nation, as follows: 1. Enhancing Gross National Income per Capita 2. Job Creation 3. Fostering Private Sector Investment Utilizing the Pareto Principle, Pemandu ascertained that a mere 20% of activities have the largest effect on these objectives. This revelation empowers a stringent prioritization of tasks, guaranteeing an optimal return on investment and conformity with key performance indicators. Key Takeaway: The Pareto Principle’s effectiveness in this context teaches us the value of focusing on the most impactful activities. It reminds us that in any endeavour, personal or professional, identifying and concentrating on the critical 20% can lead to 80% of the results. This strategic prioritization ensures that efforts and resources are allocated to areas that yield the highest returns, aligning with key performance indicators and maximizing overall success. #EconomicGrowth #ParetoPrinciple #StrategicPlanning #KeyPerformanceIndicators #PrivateSectorInvestment

In the first quarter of 2024, the S&P 500 Index reached 24 all-time highs, prompting some to speculate that a market correction is on the horizon. But according to Philip Petursson, Chief Investment Strategist at IG Wealth Management, investors need not be overly concerned.
