United States Department of Defense Modernization I retired from the #military almost 6yrs ago, crazy how time flies. About 8-months ago I accepted a position at Immersive Wisdom (IW) and was reacquainted with military operations management. To my surprise, battle management systems throughout #DOD have remained unchanged …since, ..heck, at least Desert Storm. We (U.S.) have way better #sensors and #ISR, carrier battle groups, and “all the things.” Yet, the nucleus of #integration into operations remains antiquated. IW can help modernize the #DOD enterprise, IW enables deep (joint) collaboration and reduces risk to mission as a readily deployable means to: - align the Joint Force in a #JADC2 framework - conduct hyper-enabled #C6ISR, communicate across #JIIM-C at scale - significantly reduce #bandwidth consumption on the LAN - enable cross domain #operations and access within #DDIL environments. Our warfighters deserve responsiveness, our commanders deserve an ability to accelerate decision making, our forces deserve a means to synchronize Joint effects. The future of #warfighting is now, the future of warfighting is IW. Readily deployable, postured to support, committed to the warfighter.

The Army’s looks to establish its fifth and final multidomain task force, located in Fort Liberty, NC, by Fiscal Year 2028. These multidomain task forces come as a result of the Multi-Domain Operation’s warfighting concept, now known as FT 3-0. These units are designed with the ability to operate across all domains and equipped with the Army’s growing capabilities, ultimately supporting the Army’s modernization efforts. Whether you're in the US Army or simply interested in how the U.S. views the future landscape in which the Army will operate, the US Army TRADOC G2's newest publication, "Operational Environment 2024-2034," led by Ian Sullivan, is a must-read. BLUF: The operational environment in which the U.S. Army will compete between 2024 and 2034 will be marked by large-scale combat operations (LSCO), a departure from the two prior decades of counterinsurgency. The report identifies twelve features that will inform what LSCO will look like in the next ten years, some of which I highlight below. LSCO will: - Be marked by all-domain competition and warfare, involving multiple interconnected domains and dimensions - Demand the firing and sustaining of massive amounts of munitions, challenging the Army’s magazine depth and range - See the rapid rise in the prevalence of uncrewed systems - Be marked by the democratization and proliferation of advanced technologies and hyperconnected global communications, creating an increasingly transparent battlefield that makes it difficult to hide from the enemy - See an increased lethality due to the intersection of sensor ubiquity, battlefield automation, precision strike, and massed fires - Demand increased homeland defense requirements as adversaries will have conventional, hybrid, and irregular capabilities to conduct operations against the U.S. homeland - See a rise in urban warfare, given the increasingly urban OE - See U.S. adversaries rapidly seeking to influence information and human dimensions of warfare, challenging the Army’s ability to achieve information advantage Read the full (really fascinating!) report here: https://lnkd.in/eXrTwYfa

It was a pleasure to join Lieutenant General Tom Copinger-Symes, Mivy James FBCS, Lieutenant General Todd Isaacson and Kristina E. on a panel at the Strategic Command Conference 2024. We discussed software defined warfare, the lessons learned so far from the war in Ukraine and the changing relationship between the MoD and industry.   It was a great discussion and for me there were four key takeaways for us all:   📈 We must learn lessons from the commercial world - we need to build an integrated enterprise that spans defence and industry to exploit new technologies at pace.   💡 Business as usual acquisition is still too slow to keep up with the changing threat. To stay ahead we need to scale different models like #CRENIC to create integrated enterprises focused on collaboratively getting capability to the front line.   🌐 Use of the electromagnetic spectrum is evolving and transcends all military domains. Now is the time to double down on new CEMA capabilities across defence.   🤝 We need a culture of collaboration not transactions, and alignment of purpose. Some really good points here about how delivery of defence capability can be made faster. This issue is existential, as we’ve seen in Ukraine, and it needs to be at the heart of the enterprise change effort.
