Their $12,500 gift puts us at a little more than $30,000 raised so far. Putting us closer to our $75,000 goal! In just the last year, the Redwood Empire Food Bank has served an average of 61,000 people a month, more than 4,000 people more a month than they did last year. One of the sadder components of that statistic is that, among those 61,000 people, there are an average of 840 new families a month. I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as: Charity Carwash - Operations Manager, at St Barnabas Church Fendalton! Today, Saturday 15th June I’m joining 21 volunteers to raise money for kids in Timor-Leste who are caught between extreme storms, droughts and rising seas. We’re washing cars and selling baked good to raise funds through this year’s World Vision 40 Hour Challenge. If you’ve in Ōtautahi Christchurch with a car that could use a winter wash, we’d love you to bring it to us on Saturday 15th June 10:00am - 2:00pm at St Barnabas Anglican Church, 8 Tui St (just off Fendalton Rd). We’re requesting a donation of $20 (or more for the cause if you like). For those outside of Christchurch, a number of your are still supporting the kids in Timor-Leste by making a donation directly to World Vision via our fundraising page here: https://lnkd.in/gHddGXRG I will confess that I was an unlikely choice for this particular operations management role because… a) I’ve not had and operations role for 12 years, and b) I don't wash my cars, at all...! Therefore in preparation I have undertaken an extensive review of the car washing literature (ChatGPT, YouTube, automotive store websites) to pull together an exemplary wash protocol with an accompanying wash tool set that achieves an excellent finish in an efficient timeframe. I’ve also taken into account environmental factors (water use, avoiding detergents getting into the stormwater system), health and safety, and training considerations. Serious stuff! (The math nerds reading this will have calculated that 10:00am - 2:00pm is only 4 hours, not 40 hours... I can assure you that the wider volunteer team will together be putting in well over 40 hours collectively. Plus my planning/preparation has been particularly extensive (obsessive perhaps?), so I may have used-up 36 hours already!) 😁 If you are able to support the kids in Timor-Leste it would be very much appreciated. #OperationsManagement #CarWash #Charity #CommunityAction

Little Wings provides free, chartered flights and ground transport services, taking seriously ill children from the bush to the city so they can access life-saving medical care that’s not available locally. 🚁 This year, the Sydney Markets Foundation Cherry Ball, and their famous Cherry Ball auction, were able to raise $165,000 for Little Wings to help these regional children in need. Working with more than 500 growers spread across regional and rural Australia, we understand the challenges faced by families in these areas, particularly when it comes to accessing critical healthcare. Little Wings helps ease the burden of long-distance travel, relieving families of emotional, financial, and physical strain during an incredibly difficult time. 🚨#AllHatAndNoCattle (aka #FireDrillFundraising)💥 (Post 2 of 5 - search hashtag firedrillfundraising to see previous posts) Fire drill fundraising is an appeal that is high on urgency and emotion with little to no substance. My heart sinks when I see charity leaders resort to the tactic because it erodes trust and relationships with givers. Are there times it is necessary? Sure, but you need to infuse credibility into the invitation. If you don’t, you risk getting labeled “all hat and no cattle” by my Texas friends. And spoiler alert: “all hat and no cattle” is not a sustainable fundraising strategy. Reflection #2 on fire drill fundraising: It is a one-sided conversation which is designed to quickly arouse emotions. You’re trying to get a big reaction now, often without much clarity or transparency. “Please contribute to our campaign so that we don’t have to close down by the end of this year!” (This is a very real, and current, appeal that I read this week… the charity takes care of young children suffering terminal illnesses…) 😬 Your givers do want to understand “why” and “how” before they commit. Invite them to the journey rather than a high stakes appeal. Every Guide Dog handler - and Guide Dog - is different. Part of building an effective team is finding the right dog for the client. Although a team working together can look like magic, we often don't see the communication and bond between a dog and their handler. The handler will direct the dog using their orientation skills, and the dog will help their handler navigate around obstacles, stop at kerbs and locate objectives. Some dogs are better at certain aspects of these "guiding skills" than others - so part of the matching process is understanding the dog's strengths and weaknesses and pairing them with a client with a complimentary skillset. The team works together to travel safely and confidently - it's not as magic as it appears! Last year, the #UK #population #donated an incredible £88 #billion to 168,000 #charities.
