In Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil, designers strived to create a low impact urban dwelling, that feels like an escape to paradise. While the facade is in large part floor to ceiling expansive glass windows, solar overhangs act to reduce solar gain to the interior spaces. This allows for maximum views of the natural environment surrounding the structure and for natural indirect sunlight to illuminate the interior spaces. Beautiful towering trees help to naturally shade the site and a water feature helps lower the ground temperature in the area. The building itself utilizes locally sourced natural materials in its construction, the use of local labor as well helps to reduce the buildings overall carbon footprint. This building, shows the capabilities of different building materials and construction techniques ability to also be environmentally conscious. By using natural means of heating and cooling, we can lower the need for energy use and energy waste. PHASE DANCE Design: Takeshi Hirobe Architects Location: Ito City, Shizuoka Pref. Shelter's involvement: Material supply See more photos from the link below. https://lnkd.in/dFz_-nRp To Spend Time with the Forest The site of the project was covered with dense trees. After visiting the site several times, it was noticed that one particular large tree had a particularly special presence, so the planning proceeded to surround it with the architecture. While the design is conceived with the tree as a central point, it intentionally avoids strict symmetry. Instead, angles are left free to ensure each area has the necessary spatial volume, while still controlling the overall result. This approach extends to the roof structure, where geometric "rafters" are slightly shifted, allowing for freedom in the vertical direction. This not only creates a sense of human scale in the spaces designed to be spent with the forest but also guides the way. #Shelter #design #architecture #wood #timber #structural #construction #Shizuoka #house

Greeks knew the secret to good & beautiful life. And, they even invented a word for it: Kalokagathia. So, we decided to learn this philosophy and apply it to our space design & lives, in order to transform our environment into alive, harmonious spaces we love to live in. So, now, let's do a simple exercise: suppose that we only have one life. Let's just suppose it, for the sake of getting our brain juices flowing & more. And ask yourself: why not live it in style & some harmony? P.S.: We have two lives: the 2nd life begins when we realize we only have one. So why in the world should we live it as if we can procrastinate it? #kalokagathiainteriors #beautyandgoodness #kalokagathia2in1 #spacedesign2in1 #creativeinteriors

🌞 Article Sharing: Optimization of Natural Lighting Level in Umah Pitu Ruang in Gayo Highland, Indonesia 🌞 Traditional houses are invaluable cultural assets, but many, like the Umah Pitu Ruang (UPR) in the Gayo Highland, Indonesia, face challenges in adapting to modern living standards. This study explores how natural lighting in UPRs aligns with SNI 03-6575-2001 standards and investigates ways to optimize their daylighting efficiency. 🏡 Key Findings: UPRs with north-south orientation receive better illuminance and Daylight Factor (DF) compared to those with east-west orientation. 🌈 Bedrooms in both orientations lack sufficient natural light due to minimal access to the outdoors. 🏡 The design reflects traditional lifestyles, where homes primarily served as resting spaces while daily activities occurred outdoors. 🎆 📚 Applications: Informing restoration or adaptation of traditional homes for modern use 🎇 Inspiring sustainable design approaches rooted in local cultural contexts 🏞️ Join the conversation about preserving Indonesia's architectural heritage while enhancing functionality for contemporary living. 🔗 Read the full study:https://lnkd.in/g2R--hRt #SustainableDesign #TraditionalArchitecture #UmahPituRuang #NaturalLighting #DaylightingOptimization #CulturalPreservation #ArchitecturalHeritage #GayoHighland #GreenBuilding

Let's get personal! That's one of the critical learning for me: It is the personal commitment which make impossible things to be possible. Keep striving for creativity and never settle. This is where we as human being still makes the difference, not AI. And it's personal engagement to get the team and supporting collaborators to be aligned towards the same goal. Not something we easily see from conventional corporate structures. These are being demonstrated in so many incredible brilliant works being designed by highly respected designer Eleftheria Deko. Both arc magazine issue 142 article and #Grdmagzine 12th Issue in 2024 are worth the reading. Some of the critical tricks and tips , of course I am not going to share here. ;-) #PersonalEngagement #TeamSpirit #lightingDesign Eleftheria Deko #CrossborderInnovation #DoNotTakeNoForGranted
🌟 Celebrating the light of Eleftheria Deko 🌟 We were honored to attend the special event celebrating Eleftheria Deko, where GrdMag unveiled its final 2024 issue—a stunning 150-page tribute to her life's work, creative journey, and unique philosophy of light. Eleftheria Deko is a distinguished Greek lighting designer renowned for her extensive work across theater, opera, dance, and architectural projects. Since 1990, she has designed lighting for over 600 performances, earning international acclaim and numerous awards. In 2001, she founded "Eleftheria Deko & Associates Lighting Design Studio," focusing on both stage and architectural lighting. A pivotal moment in her career was designing the lighting for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, for which she earned the 2005 Emmy Award—the first Greek to achieve this honor! As serial awards winner, the latest work in Lighting Design for the stunning Acropolis, won her Ultimate Darc Award in 2020, amongst many others... Beyond her design work, Deko has contributed to education as an Assistant Professor at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where she introduced stage lighting into the Greek university curriculum. Her innovative approach and dedication have significantly influenced the field of lighting design in Greece and internationally. This is clearly being visible on generations of lighting designers who have been influenced by her. The celebratory 150-page magazine was revealed on December 11 at the Benaki Museum. Vivalyte had the privilege of designing a custom LED-lit cover, featuring a circular LED panel, a rechargeable battery, and a touch-activated sensor. Thank you, Eleftheria, for inspiring us all with your brilliance!
