In Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil, designers strived to create a low impact urban dwelling, that feels like an escape to paradise. While the facade is in large part floor to ceiling expansive glass windows, solar overhangs act to reduce solar gain to the interior spaces. This allows for maximum views of the natural environment surrounding the structure and for natural indirect sunlight to illuminate the interior spaces. Beautiful towering trees help to naturally shade the site and a water feature helps lower the ground temperature in the area. The building itself utilizes locally sourced natural materials in its construction, the use of local labor as well helps to reduce the buildings overall carbon footprint. This building, shows the capabilities of different building materials and construction techniques ability to also be environmentally conscious. By using natural means of heating and cooling, we can lower the need for energy use and energy waste. After visiting the site several times, it was noticed that one particular large tree had a particularly special presence, so the planning proceeded to surround it with the architecture. While the design is conceived with the tree as a central point, it intentionally avoids strict symmetry. Instead, angles are left free to ensure each area has the necessary spatial volume, while still controlling the overall result. This approach extends to the roof structure, where geometric "rafters" are slightly shifted, allowing for freedom in the vertical direction. 🌞 Article Sharing: Optimization of Natural Lighting Level in Umah Pitu Ruang in Gayo Highland, Indonesia 🌞 Traditional houses are invaluable cultural assets, but many, like the Umah Pitu Ruang (UPR) in the Gayo Highland, Indonesia, face challenges in adapting to modern living standards. Let's get personal! That's one of the critical learning for me: It is the personal commitment which make impossible things to be possible. Keep striving for creativity and never settle. This is where we as human being still makes the difference, not AI. And it's personal engagement to get the team and supporting collaborators to be aligned towards the same goal. Not something we easily see from conventional corporate structures. These are being demonstrated in so many incredible brilliant works being designed by highly respected designer Eleftheria Deko. Both arc magazine issue 142 article and #Grdmagzine 12th Issue in 2024 are worth the reading.
