12 years in the making. I did not read the dress code before starting at STAR. So, on my first day it was a hundred degrees outside and my high heels weren’t the best choice. I was feeling pretty awkward.. And then a Teams message popped up: “𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐛 𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡 𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫?”. The feeling of inclusion as soon as I read this, is something I won’t forget. Christophe Coquilhat was the one sending the message. This year marks his 12𝐭𝐡 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐚𝐭 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐑. 12 years of recruitment, key account & business development management. 𝐖𝐨𝐰. I want to start by congratulating everyone that has been promoted this year! It’s a well-deserved and tremendous accomplishment. But this post isn't for recent promotes. This post is dedicated to everyone who hasn't been promoted in years, went up for promotion but didn't get it, and for those who simply were not ready for whatever reason. This isn't to show pity or to patronize. It is simply to recognize the frustration that comes with wanting to make it to the next level, feeling like you're ready to go the distance, but ultimately being denied that chance. I'm not really into toxic positivity and will save the platitudes. Instead I offer you this: Give yourself permission to be disappointed. It's ok to wallow for a bit. You're human, not a robot (AI hasn't taken over…yet). Give yourself some grace. You are overjoyed for your colleagues but there's also a tinge of jealousy followed by feelings of guilt. The cycle repeats with every congratulatory post that comes across your feed. Yet, another human attribute that happens to show up when you care about your teammates *and* about your own capabilities. Give yourself time to reflect. This wasn't your year, but next year can be. Engage in honest reflection about your efforts--both strengths and growth areas. Enlist your trusted board of advisors. Tap into your network for help. Ask your leaders and peers for actionable feedback and don't forget to check back in to share your progress. Don't stay stuck. I know I said it's ok to wallow but there's gotta be a time limit on that. There's no profound quote to end this post. We all know that navigating your career journey isn't easy, so wanted to acknowledge and recognize all of you that may been feeling a little bit down. Find comfort in knowing that others have been where you are and have persevered. Your time really is coming (ok one platitude never hurt anyone).

Dear LinkedIn community, yes you! Today, I stand before you with immense pride and joy as we celebrate a remarkable milestone in our 100-day LinkedIn posting challenge. It's been an incredible journey, filled with both triumphs and challenges. One of the biggest hurdles I faced was adhering to the specific posting times. Being 2 hours ahead of most of my team members made it difficult to maintain consistency. The struggle intensified during my travels, when I found myself 4 hours ahead and constantly battling jet lag. The temptation to give up was strong, but I persevered. On top of these challenges, I also encountered network issues that threatened to derail my progress. However, I embraced scheduling posts as a strategic solution, ensuring that my content reached my audience at the designated times. Through all these trials, I've learned the true meaning of teamwork and collaboration. My team has been a pillar of strength, offering encouragement, support, and valuable insights. Together, we've overcome obstacles and celebrated each other's successes. As we celebrate this 50-day milestone, I'm filled with gratitude for the lessons learned, the connections made, and the personal growth achieved. Why don’t you give people their accolades? It’s the weekend, and I’d like to discuss something more interesting…. So, friends, move closer! Why do you not give people their accolades, whether they’re working in the same line as you are or not? Have you ever done a job for a client and they came back not just to say “Thank you” or “I like it” or “That works,” but they actually came back to give you your credits; “Temilade, I like that you delivered 100 percent. You are really good at what you do”? How did it make you feel? I bet it made you feel fulfilled and positive towards doing more jobs. This is the reason you should also learn to give people their accolades no matter what their job description is. When a person delivers to you seamlessly and you enjoy either their product or services, take time to appraise them and encourage their hustle. Now, you might be feeling like you deserve an accolade because you’re rendering services and working as an employee. When was the last time you commended a vendor that sells things to you? When was the last time you commended your colleagues and work besties? When was the last time you gave your boss his/her credits? When was the last time you praised your spouse for the little things that they do? When was the last time you appreciated your children for how hard they’ve been studying in school?
