How can we better tackle #housing and #homelessness challenges in our communities? 🏠 At Local Partnerships LLP, we believe the answer lies in innovative solutions, strategic support and collaborative action. Our latest housing and homelessness case studies reveal how councils and local authorities across the UK are transforming housing delivery and support for vulnerable residents. From Milton Keynes, where we helped optimise a £165m housing repairs and maintenance programme, to Manchester, where our data-driven models are helping to reduce homelessness, our strategic support has been instrumental. We’ve also worked on housing delivery vehicles (HDVs) to help councils build faster and more efficiently, unblocked stalled social housing sites in Wales, and secured £6m funding to jumpstart the UK’s largest housing regeneration project in Wirral. I recently had the chance to visit California, a once-in-a-lifetime trip to dive into LA’s art scene and enjoy a holiday. While I was really taken by the city’s culture, what struck me most was the harsh reality of homelessness. Walking through downtown LA, I saw a sharp contrast between the city’s tall skyscrapers and the makeshift homes of people living on the streets. It was an emotional experience to see such visible hardship right next to immense wealth, showing just how deep the divide can be between those with resources and those struggling with poverty. This experience made me reflect deeply on our work here at home. In the UK, we face significant challenges with homelessness and temporary housing. The new government target to build 1.5 million new homes over the next five years is just one indicator of the immense pressure on housing and the urgent need for more. While I’m not one to get into politics, I do want to highlight why our work in social housing is so crucial to making a real difference and tackling these challenges together. For me, housing isn’t just about providing shelter; it’s about ensuring every person has a sense of belonging, dignity, and opportunity. It can sometimes feel overwhelming, but staying focused is key. It also reminds me that our collective efforts in Wirral and beyond are part of a bigger, global issue. Every step we take brings us closer to a more inclusive community, both locally and globally. As a place-based organisation, Magenta Living recognises the need for more homes in our communities. We understand how important it is to work closely with local leaders, partners, our metro mayor, and those directly impacted by housing challenges. As Rural Housing Week continues we're sharing some information about what affordable rural housing is. What is affordable rural housing? Affordable housing includes homes for sale or rent and is for people whose needs are not met by the private market. Affordable housing is a key element of the government’s plan to end the housing crisis, tackle homelessness and provide aspiring homeowners with a step onto the housing ladder. What's the role of a rural housing enabler? Rural Housing Enablers are impartial advisors working from rural community organisations like Connecting Communities in Berkshire, Community Impact Bucks and Community First Oxfordshire. They play an essential role in supporting communities, landowners, local authorities, and housing associations to deliver housing on Rural Exception Sites #ruralhousingweek #ruralhousingenabler

Persimmon Homes (East Wales) has announced plans to deliver 339 high-quality homes in #Rhoose, #ValeofGlamorgan, addressing a critical housing shortage in the area. “Our full planning application, now with the Vale of Glamorgan Council, features sustainable and eco-friendly homes designed to blend seamlessly with the surrounding neighbourhood while creating a vibrant community. With nearly 7,000 people on the housing waiting list, this development will provide much-needed housing, including 119 properties reserved for a local housing association partner to support affordable living and prevent homelessness. We’re committed to engaging with the local community to ensure the development meets their needs. A dedicated website has been launched to share plans and gather feedback. If approved, groundwork is set to begin in Spring 2025, with the first homes ready for Christmas that year, bringing hope to many families and contributing to a brighter future for Rhoose.” #PersimmonHomes

We had the honor of showcasing #AzurePrintedHomes at the state Capitol in Sacramento yesterday, alongside lawmakers and community leaders. One of our 3D-printed homes was on display, highlighting innovative solutions to address California's homelessness crisis. This home, just over 100 square feet, offer a temporary, dignified space for individuals to stay while they transition to permanent housing. State Senators Josh Becker and Catherine Blakespear, Assemblyman Gregg Hart, San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan and Elizabeth Funk, CEO of #DignityMoves emphasized the urgency of the situation, with 67% of California's homeless population unsheltered. Senate Bill 1395, the Interim Supportive Housing Act, seeks to streamline the building process on unused land, making it easier for cities to quickly deploy interim housing solutions. We're proud to be part of this movement, providing eco-friendly, cost-effective, and rapidly constructed housing that can make a real difference in people's lives. As Mayor Mahan noted, these units are more than just shelter—they’re a stepping stone to stability and a better future. I'm glad to see that there's now an organization to counter affordable housing NIMBY-ism: YIMBY Action. Hopefully, there will be chapters in Canada soon. YIMBY Action is a national network advocating for affordable housing across the United States. With chapters coast to coast, they provide invaluable resources, training, and community support to local groups facing housing challenges. It's driven by a diverse group of members, including architects, city planners, home builders, and everyday citizens who have felt the impact of rising housing costs firsthand. They understand the urgency of the housing crisis and work to create solutions that can help alleviate the burden many individuals and families face, from long commutes to homelessness. This organization embodies a commitment to addressing systemic housing issues while fostering a sense of community among those affected. ULI San Antonio received a Homeless to Housed (H2H) local technical assistance grant to explore real estate-driven solutions to homelessness. The result was a virtual visual preference survey on different housing typologies to garner community acceptance of infill development and broaden San Antonio’s housing market.
