“She” we celebrate, “she” we do not objectify! We all exist in a reality where women are often reduced to mere objects. Everyone, it seems, has like.. a pre-formed notion of how a woman should → look → behave → or even live This notion, unfortunately, disregards the → individuality → uniqueness → freedom every woman rightfully deserves. Women are capable of so much more than what society usually assigns them to. Let's strive for a world where women are respected and celebrated → for who they are, not how they look. A world where a woman's value is not tied to her physical appearance, but rather her → mind → actions → character As a makeup artist, my job is to work on outer beauty I consider makeup not an escape from the authentic self to maintain societal standards → rather an art that enhances the beauty within. It's a form of self-expression that allows individuals to highlight their unique features and boost their confidence, celebrating their inner essence through creative application of color and texture. This is a call for change. This is an appeal to everyone to be that change. To change the way we see, talk about, and treat women. It is time to eliminate → offensive jokes → derogatory language → sexist comments from our day-to-day exchanges. Most importantly, let our respect for women not be limited to their roles as mothers, daughters, or wives. Let's respect women for being individuals with their own thoughts, ideas, and ambitions. This is not a battle for women alone to fight. It is a collective responsibility - one that involves men, children, and every member of society. Current situation: Gettin’ my hair done x proofreading the Inspiration Space newsletter. Sharing this for two reasons: 1) This is actually quite taboo. And by that I mean sharing a picture of natural hair and what it looks like when you get it braided. To dive deeper, see #thecrownact and discrimination that Black women experience because of our hair. 2) I’ve been talking/thinking about lot about the importance of intersectional feminism, especially in light of everything that’s happened with Innovate UK’s “Women in Innovation” award. What’s the connection? Well, I use synthetic hair when getting my hair braided, even though I would LOVE a more sustainable option. And it’s not because entrepreneurs aren’t creating solutions. But founders who understand this challenge and are motivated to solve the problem are also Black. Which means, they struggle even more than non-Black founders, regardless of gender, to raise money. But the TAM for this market is freaking HUGE!!! According to 360 Market Updates new survey, global Black Hair Care market is projected to reach $10B in 2029. That’s quite a niche bearing in mind we’re talking about a demographic that represents 20% of the population in the US. The environmental and human rights impact for more sustainable hair is innovation. Yet, several startups and small businesses trying to address this issue have had to shutter doors because grant assessors and investor don’t get the market. Which is why it’s not enough to assume women assessors or investors will level the playing field for ALL women. The unconscious bias and systemic racism are found across genders. So, if you identify as an ally, and/or are frustrated about the lack of funding options for women, be mindful of how you write and speak: ❌ “Women and underrepresented Founders.” This statement others women of colour. ❌ “Women and Women of colour.” Hopefully this one doesn’t need explaining… My preference is “women” as it’s inclusive. But, I’m not here to speak on behalf of anyone other than myself. #womenimbusiness #intersectionalfeminism

In 1950 Ella Fitzgerald was not allowed to play because of her skin color in a popular Hollywood club "Mocambo". Marilyn was a big fan of hers, she called the owner of the club and told him that if he allowed Ella to play, she would be there every night, which would benefit him with the amount of press it would attract. He agreed and Monroe was there every night, front row, which guaranteed great press coverage. Ella Fitzgerald said "After that, I never had to play any small club again. Marilyn was an unusual woman, ahead of her time and she didn't even realize it." "Real women support other women to succeed, insecure women put stones in their path." ❤️

There are mixed emotions surrounding E.L.F. Beauty's newest campaign 'So Many Dicks' . The beauty company aims to encourage more diversity across U.S. Corporate Boards. According to ADWEEK : “So many dicks, so few of everyone else,” the tagline reads, employing the brand’s signature cheeky tone of voice. With agency Oberland, e.l.f. conducted research on the race and gender makeup of corporate boards in the U.S., across 36,957 existing board members and 4,429 publicly traded companies listed on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq. The findings include: There were 566 men named Richard, Rick or Dick serving on those boards. Hispanic women numbered 283, only one-half the number of “Dicks.” There were 806 Black women and 774 Asian women on boards. Here are some comments that I’ve seen on social media so far: 1. Companies choose board members based on who they think can provide the most expertise. Shouldn’t matter generated or anything else. Pick based on qulifications. 2. Too much of a departure and the branding is off. A creative attempt sure, and valid messaging but it doesn’t hit correctly. 3. This is super sexist! 4. Maybe because those “Dicks” out perform everyone. Identity politics is either for everyone or no one. You want the position then qualify based off merit and outwork us. That simple. 5. 💞 Happy International Women’s Day 💞 This year’s theme is “Inspire Inclusion”. This post by maybeboth on IG really resonated with me. It got me thinking about what it would mean to embrace “letting go” rather than “adding more”, to establish inclusivity. As Women, we are often burdened with societal expectations and pressures that dictate how we should act, think, and look. We see this play out all the time in the workplace. And yes, this hits different for Black women. Letting go doesn’t mean giving up; it means relaxing the shackles of societal norms and embracing a more inclusive definition of Womanhood. It means celebrating our differences, supporting one another, and ensuring intentions, actions and outcomes are in alignment. So whether you’re a “Chad”, a “Chelsea” or a “Company”…this is a moment to pause. This is the time to reflect. This is a chance to do better. This International Women’s Day, I encourage you to join me in letting go… 👉🏾 Of bias (conscious and unconscious). 👉🏾 Of judgement (when the unfamiliar or different shows up). 👉🏾 Of expectations (held always for others, but rarely for yourself). 👉🏾 Of limiting thoughts (that hold us back from progress & growth). The findings from the 2018 study published in the journal Development And Learning In Organisations are indeed eye-opening. It reveals that a significant 70 percent of female executives have experienced bullying by other women in their workplace, which they believe has hindered their career progression. This statistic underscores the importance of addressing workplace bullying and fostering a supportive environment for all employees. Organizations must implement policies and create a culture that discourages such behavior, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to thrive and succeed.
