I got a bad feeling. Reddit has agreed to an AI content licensing deal with Google -- unlocking the API's deep and widespread insights into almost any topic. Have we now simply created the bad incentives that flooded Google with subpar page results over into Reddit? With Google's AI tools heavily parsing Reddit communities for their knowledge, I'm hoping the "upvote/downvote" system maintains a level of objectivity that holds the line against diluting the quality of Reddit results. Thoughts? #reddit #googlebusiness #marketingb2b

Will Google lose search advertising revenue due to the arrivals of ChatGPT, Perplexity and Bing Copilot? I made this infographic and yes the threats are real. BUT, note 2 things - 1. Despite Google's over reliance on Paid Search revenue (80% of their total), its vast data collection across Google Maps, Google Play, Andriod phones, YouTube and Gmail coupled with its ecomm capabilities will make sure that advertisers stay within the Google ecosystem and continue to spend 2. Gemini is projected to reach 1 billion users in 2024 compared to the 10 million or 100 million users gained by the new comers in the past year...you can do the math So in conclusion, I do not see Google losing Search dollars any time soon, despite the exponential growth of the likes of ChatGPT #LLM #infographic #google

Some exciting #IT news has arrived. Today, social media platform Reddit signed a deal with Google to license AI-powered content. What does this mean? I am sure you all know #Reddit as a forum where anyone can ask questions and get answers from experts, including politicians and celebrities. And now, their content will be available to train #artificialintelligence models. Thus, Reddit is creating a new source of income in the face of fierce competition for advertising with the most prominent social networks. The contract with #Google may become a model for future agreements of a similar nature. It is also reported the deal is worth about $60 million per year. Meanwhile, ChatGPT talks with other media companies, including CNN, Fox Corp, and Time, to license their content to train its #chatbots

The new subreddit for makers I created gathered 233 members in 3 days!!!🤯 People come to R*ddit for 6 reasons: 1) Reddit's potential is growing because Google displays links to Reddit instead of SEO junk blogs. 2) 𝕏 algo is unpredictable. Yesterday it was cool, today it is a tiktok. You want diversity. 3) Post on 𝕏 has the potential to get maybe 50k-200k views. Post on Reddit has a chance to be put on the frontpage and your servers will melt (NomadList story). 4) Redditors read and discuss thoughtfully, people on 𝕏 mostly scroll and have fun. 5) An 𝕏 post shelf-life is 6 hours. A Reddit post brings traffic for years. 6) OpenAI partnered with Reddit and started to openly train LLM on the data. If you want ChatGPT to know about your brand, you want to be on Reddit. If you were scared of Reddit but always wanted to try, welcome to /r/BootstrappedSaaS/! https://lnkd.in/dg2RYz2w

Reddit Blocks Other Search Engines, Gives Google Exclusive Access Reddit has restricted search engines and AI crawlers from accessing its content by altering its robots.txt file. Google remains the only search engine authorized to index Reddit material, acting as the primary tool for searching Reddit discussions. The restriction may be linked to a significant data-sharing deal between Reddit and Google, allowing Google to use Reddit data for artificial intelligence training. Other search engines have criticized Reddit's choice, viewing it as favouring Google and negatively impacting competition. Reddit's decision is in line with a common trend seen across websites, as they limit the usage of bots to prevent data scraping. Google's unique position allows it to leverage a vast amount of online data, such as content from Reddit, to train its AI models. 📌Join our WhatsApp channel for the latest updates, link in the comment section👇 Follow Tech News (Lets Code) for more updates! #letscode #technews #reddit #google #bing #duckduckgo

Frustrated by Google search, people are funneling their queries to a site that isn’t a search engine at all: Reddit, Inc. That includes WSJ reporter Ann-Marie Alcántara. This is partly because the importance of ranking high on Google has led companies to game the system, clogging results with unhelpful links. There are misleading ads, a barrage of sponsored shopping links, and dicey websites claiming to be experts when they aren’t. Some people turn to AI chatbots like OpenAI’s ChatGPT for answers, but others are now adding “Reddit” to the end of any Google search string to surface comments by real people. Inspired by Reddit fans, Ann-Marie decided to do a general Google search and a specific Reddit search for every query for a week, then compare the results. 🔗 Here’s what happened during her weeklong experiment: https://lnkd.in/eS5MY9p4 How do you search for answers online?

Well, well, well. #Reddit, the once-scrappy underdog of the internet, is all grown up and playing with the big boys now. Their stock is soaring, and they've inked a deal with #OpenAI to feed the insatiable appetite of #ChatGPT. It's a far cry from the Reddit of old, where the ethos was all about community, sharing, and sticking it to the man. I can't help but wonder what those early Redditors would think about their beloved platform selling off their #data - and not even getting a cut of the profits. Talk about adding insult to injury. But hey, times change, right? And if users have the right to delete their #content when they want to... wait, do they? That's the million-dollar question. Because let's be real, once your data is out there, it's not exactly easy to put the genie back in the bottle. Sure, Reddit's recent financial successes are impressive, and their partnerships with Google and OpenAI are undoubtedly lucrative. But at what cost? Is the soul of Reddit being sold off, one API call at a time?
