Helping introverted scientists to speak up with confidence and become more visible without becoming overwhelmed.
Quotes like this make it seem easy don’t they; these fears you have, they’re all in your head, so don’t be pushed around by them… problem solved. I’m not sure about you, but I’ve not yet been able to rationalise my fears enough to be able just ‘think’ my way out of a panic attack. I have however over time been able to dig deep and find the real reasons for the fears in my head. The interesting thing is that when I found what the real reasons behind the fear were and where they came from, then I was able to deal with them and disperse them so I could let my heart lead the way. At the beginning it took time and support from someone trained to listen and guide me through new ways of being. Now, I’m able to solve these situations myself most of the time, as well as help others. If you’d like to learn what the origin of fears really are, and how to tame them… we should speak. I’m Louise and I help non-native introverted scientists in the Pharma and Biotech industry gain the confidence to be seen and heard so they can get the recognition they deserve and desire. #pharma #scientist #communicationskills #smalltalk

🌐🔬 Breaking Through the Email Jungle: Because Laughter is the Best Medicine! 🔬🌐 Shwmae Biotech Leaders, (that's Welsh for Hello 😁) Hope this message finds you amidst a sea of unopened emails, unanswered calls, and the occasional existential crisis about whether to check your voicemail... I'm here to add to the glorious chaos! 🎉 Not really, but kind of. I get it - you're bombarded with more vendor emails than there are atoms in the universe (probably). You see, I'm that person sliding into your LinkedIn DMs, not to give you yet another headache but to share a little secret – I'm not a spam bot, promise! 🤖 I'm not your typical spammer. I'm a living, breathing human suffering with PCOS and Endometriosis. Yep, I'm practically a walking biotech experiment, but without the lab coat (don't worry, I'm not stealing your look). But, in all seriousness, if there was an Olympic event for handling excruciating pain & hormonal chaos, I'd have a gold medal by now! 🥇 But, amidst the sea of "urgent" subject lines and tempting offers, there's me – a genuine human, possibly fueled by too much Welsh Brew and a wild sense of humour. Now let me introduce you to Simbec-Orion, a CRO that's like the Goldilocks of the industry – not too big, not too small, but just right. We might not have a trophy cabinet full of awards, but who needs that when you can have a team that stays with you longer than your favourite Netflix series? 📺 So, while we might not have the budget for a 10-course meal and a bottle of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Grand Cru 1945 🍷 what we serve up is authenticity. No smoke, no mirrors, just a team passionate about your drug development journey. At Simbec-Orion, we're all about honesty and transparency. Because let's face it, we're in this together, navigating the unpredictable waters of drug development. Your drug is our baby, and we promise to nurture it with the care of a helicopter parent – minus the hovering. 🍼 So, if you're up for a laugh, a dash of sarcasm, and maybe a sprinkle of optimism, let's connect! Because even in the serious world of biotech, a little kindness and humour goes a long way. 🖖 Cheers, Rachel

In our industry - pharma we plan.........a lot! Business plans, call plans, trial and drug development plans, plans to reorganise departments and business units to upsize, downsize and right size ... ! At home we plan holidays and meals (sometimes) We are told that if we don't plan for it, then 'it' won't happen, and I agree with this. We have all heard this... 'fail to plan - plan to fail' However, and this is a biggie - how many of you plan your self care? Time and activities just for you to decompress, replenish and get some space and perspective. Yeah, thought so, you don't. You don't have a plan to prevent it so you get overtired, stressed out and emotional and blame yourself for not being able to push through.....again. I hear you..... you don't have time. I was just the same in the past It's not your fault, you are not to blame. No one ever showed you or taught you how to do it and it's a skill just like any other, supported by a bit of a helpful mindset. One tool i use with most clients, and i use it myself, is called 'The Needs Creed' Without knowing what your physical, emotional, social and mental needs are how can you ensure they are met... let alone plan for them. You can't Want to know more ? Send me a DM or book a call (link at the top of my profile) and we can start from there. I gotcha 🤗

Helping introverted scientists to speak up with confidence and become more visible without becoming overwhelmed.
Introverts wish they could speak up in meetings, make small talk and network as easily as their more extroverted colleagues could. They wish they were able to just say what‘s on their mind without all the second guessing of whether its correct or not and how the information is going to be received. They wish it could be as easy as it obviously is for their colleagues to just come out with all those little comments, greetings, compliments and suggestions… but they can’t. It’s almost as if there’s a safety switch in their heads that prevents the words from coming out. They don’t like their safety switch, and they beat themselves up about it time and time again, especially when they hear their colleagues saying the exact same thing that was in their mind, the exact same thing that they didn’t say, being accepted, welcomed, and even appreciated and praised. Why weren’t they able to say that? What is it that’s preventing them from saying the same things that are in their heads? What’s wrong with them? Nothing. There’s nothing wrong with you if the switch in your head isn’t allowing you to speak your thoughts. It’s just that you have safety measures installed and set at a higher level than your colleagues. Beating yourself up about it isn’t the answer either. I’m Louise, and I help introverted and highly sensitive people in Pharma and Biotech understand and have compassion with their highly functioning safety switches, so that they can gradually turn them off and speak up just as easily as their colleagues; so that they can start being more visible and getting that recognition they so badly desire and deserve. Is this you? Dm me for a quiet chat. #biotech #pharma #scientist #confidence #businessenglish #oncology

I’ve been pondering a lot lately about what makes a career. A simple email I received yesterday caused me to pause. An article I co-authored with Jennifer St. Clair Russell, PhD, MSEd, MCHES had been cited in a recent article in the Clinical Kidney Journal. For me, career building work means having a creative container, a space where I can formulate and design new ideas, where my work doesn’t just live but thrives and impacts others. This realization isn’t new, but its importance has become more evident recently. A career, in its truest sense, isn’t something one builds deliberately. It’s a byproduct of engaging in work that’s inherently purposeful, work that ignites your soul. When your day-to-day activities align with your inner drive, you naturally create opportunities that utilize your expertise, making a meaningful difference. A few months back, someone asked me, “What would others say about Amber Paulus?” Back then, I believed they’d say, “She’s a hard worker, passionate about her work.” That remains true, but now, there’s more. Above all, I strive to do work that matters. Work that transcends the boundaries of checkbox medicine, fostering partnerships based on shared values and radically transforming nephrology into a discipline that prioritizes kidney health. In a career shaped by a quest for impact and the desire to move the needle, what truly matters is the legacy we leave in transforming patient lives. That’s the career I’m building – one impactful step at a time.

Small wins build evidence. Evidence builds confidence. This was the mindset that helped me adapt in my first year as a PCN role. Research shows this is one of the best ways to help beat imposter syndrome. Here's the framework I used to help me get small wins daily: 1. Set daily goals 2. Keep a done list for the day 3. Reflect on the positives from the day I used this framework recently when I did my prescribing course. Since passing my prescribing, I've also been using this to help build my confidence as a prescriber. --- If you found this insightful, let me know by liking and also following me for more content like this.
