Working 10+ years in non-profits and churches, I have learned (mainly through failure) that you cannot just use anyone to fit a volunteer role! I have been guilty of this because I had a lot going on, positions need to be filled, and (let's be honest) if you can pass a background check they you are in! 😂 Volunteers don’t have all the time in the world, but they do have compassion to serve others! To honor their time, we have to create opportunities for volunteers to truly shine based on their strengths and zones of genius. Using Maxwell DISC Method: **If your volunteer is D-wired, he or she may thrive in challenging environments. **If your volunteer is I-wired, he or she may shine in group activities. **If your volunteer is S-wired, he or she may flourish with activities they can start and finish. **If your volunteer is C-wired, he or she may shine in technical and detail- oriented tasks. DISC is just another great tool to better lead people and utilize their gifts! #Volunteers #ministry #nonprofitleadership #leaders #leadership #DISC #renewcoaching

Transformative Board of Director Facilitator & International Keynote Speaker | Driving $14M in Revenue & Organizational Resilience | Passionate Advocate for Community Empowerment & Strategic Leadership
Reflecting on My Journey: From Humble Beginnings to Transformational Leadership 🌱 As a Black professional deeply rooted in the nonprofit sector, I've journeyed from humble beginnings to spearheading transformational change. Growing up in a home led by a missionary, I learned the value of giving back early on. This foundation led me to the nonprofit world, where I've dedicated my career to empowering organizations to make a lasting impact. In 1996, I embarked on my "official" nonprofit journey as an intern, igniting a passion that would fuel my trajectory for years to come. In 1998, I found my home at the Boys & Girls Clubs, where I spent two decades serving in various capacities, from direct services to executive leadership. One of my proudest achievements is leading the charge in increasing operational revenue from $750,000 to $2.5 million over eight years. Additionally, spearheading a $12 million comprehensive capital campaign and establishing a $500,000 endowment in one of the nation's poorest counties stand as testament to the power of strategic leadership and community partnership. With this wealth of experience, I've had the privilege of guiding countless nonprofit organizations, instilling confidence in fundraising efforts, engaging boards, and building sustainable systems for long-term success. 📢 Now, I invite you to reflect on your own journey: What pivotal moments have defined your success? Who are the key players who have shaped your professional story? Let's engage in a meaningful dialogue about how we measure impact and empower one another to continue making a difference. Share your insights below! #NonprofitLeadership #TransformationalChange #BlackHistoryMonth2024

Emergence of a New Generation of Non-Profit Leaders As seen in Hunt Scanlon Media's recently released Non-Profit Executive Recruiting newsletter, there’s a palpable energy fueled by the emergence of a new generation of #nonprofit leaders. “Like their predecessors, they are driven by a strong sense of purpose and a desire for impactful work,” said Michelle Kristel, managing partner of McCormack+Kristel. “However, they are more likely to change jobs in pursuit of opportunities for growth and impact and, of particular importance to younger staff, to find organizational cultures that are aligned with their personal #values. The combination of a wave of executives retiring and the openness of next-gen leaders to explore new opportunities has created a dynamic environment for #executivesearch within the non-profit sector, driving significant activity in the market.” Read more >> https://lnkd.in/eck_TgF

Last week I conducted multiple on-line polls of those who are responsible for organizing and leading volunteers. Between 85 and 100% of respondents reported that recruiting, identifying, and enrolling adequate numbers of capable volunteers was their greatest challenge (compared to retaining and motivating existing participants.) "What's necessary for volunteer driven initiatives to flourish is an integrated strategy that must included a meaningful compelling mission (clearly articulated by Sr. leadership), cast with inspiring effective vision, along with an intentional, on-going system of scouting and identifying capable prospects." -Gary Yonek Relationships speak to retention. Relationships develop and change over time. One cannot even begin to develop relational bridges until some type of initial contact is first established. #volunteer #leadership #communication #notforprofit #welcomeaboard #filocommunity #churchleadership #culture #hr #npo #beyondself #nonprofit #teams

Executive search in the non-profit sector mirrors broader hiring trends, focusing on leadership, strategic vision, and organizational impact. Non-profits need resilient leaders who can navigate crises, maintain stability, and deliver on their missions. Post-pandemic, there is fierce competition for talented individuals, especially at the CEO level. Private sector professionals are increasingly drawn to non-profit roles for their sense of purpose and fulfillment. While this shift creates more opportunities, it also introduces new challenges. Read the 2024 Hunt Scanlon Media Non-Profit Executive Recruiting Special Issue, "Non-Profits Seek New Kinds of Leaders with Help from Search Firms," to gain more insights on the shifting dynamics of non-profit search from Shelli Herman and other industry experts. https://lnkd.in/dzudTGe #ExecutiveSearch #NonProfitLeadership #LeadershipTrends #LeadershipOpportunities #NonProfitChallenges #HuntScanlonMedia #ShelliHerman #IndustryInsights #NonProfitSearch
