A vegan, a meat eater working for a mushroom company and two meat eaters working for a meat company walk into a plant based restaurant… Rather than the start of a joke or setting the scene for a bar fight, I’m pleased to report the exact opposite - we had an incredible meal (one of the best I’ve ever had) and it was the start of a beautiful partnership! Jeffrey Seiden of Fable, Simon Zilm, CSP and Jeffrey Clarke of the Canadian arm of the large Australian meat company Thomas Foods International and I were having dinner together in Toronto. We were there to discuss our distribution partnership for Fable in the Canadian market and the Thomas Foods gentlemen were kind enough to choose a plant based restaurant for us and boy did they pick well! 🙏 Planta Queen Toronto! All 4 of us were blown away! The food was incredible, the cocktails outstanding and the venue was PUMPING - so much so that Jeffrey got up mid meal to chat with Chef Daniel Hyam. They got talking about mushrooms, we shared samples and were introduced to Chef David Lee - award winning Executive Chef and Co-Founder of PLANTA Restaurants! And that leads us to today - we’ve launched onto the June Exclusives menu at all Planta and Planta Queen locations in the US and Canada! 🥳 🍄🟫🥗 Crispy Shiitake Miso Slaw - crispy Fable shiitake, avocado, roasted cashews, pickled cucumber, ginger dressing. Thank you to the Planta team who have been so great to work with. We are truly honoured to partner with you. Your food and venues are outstanding. I want to particularly thank Chef David Lee, Chef Felicia DeRose, Chef Jo Hannah Cabrera Conti, Chef Jennifer Corona, Danna Gur, Gia Eckhardt, Erin Nicholson and CEO Steven Salm. A big thank you also to all the Thomas Foods team who have helped us with importing and distribution in the US and Canada. Particularly Jordan P., John Luce, Paul Ballak, Mark Idoni, Brian Gunning, Sam Mynderse, Simon Zilm and Jeffrey Clarke. Of course the two Jeffrey's, Simon and I kicked on after our dinner that night at Planta Queen. Many beers were had followed by a competitive game of Ping Pong at SPIN Toronto. In case you were wondering, or even if you weren’t, the vegan won! 🍄🏓💪🥇😆 Visit your local Planta quickly - the Crispy Shiitake Miso Slaw is part of the June Exclusives menu, available, as the name suggests, only in June!
