Great opportunity announced for the Appalachian region (and Delta and Northern Border regions)! What are some economic growth opportunities in our Upstate that would benefit from workforce training in marginalized and underserved areas? The WORC Initiative aims to fund grants that create economic mobility, address inequities for historically marginalized communities of color, rural areas, and other underserved and underrepresented communities. These grants are designed to produce high-quality employment outcomes for workers in the Appalachian, Delta, and Northern Border regions, enabling them to remain and thrive in their communities. The Initiative provides grant funds to help impacted communities develop local and regional workforce development solutions aligned with existing economic development strategies and community partnerships, promoting new, sustainable job opportunities and long-term economic vitality with a focus on equity and underserved populations. WORC Round 6 places a strong emphasis on three key focus areas: enhancing access to Good Jobs, prioritizing equity, and sustaining impact. https://lnkd.in/dUmYQ-GV

We're thrilled to see the City of Vancouver's launch of their 5-year UNDRIP action plan, and reflect on our commitment to reconciliation with Indigenous communities in our work. By committing to this action plan, the City of Vancouver is setting an important precedent to enable equitable access to necessary components of economic reconciliation - such as access to municipal services and infrastructure that is critical to developing reserve lands. In our experience working with our First Nations clients, access to services and infrastructure can be a major barrier that can cause significant delays and additional costs to advancing development projects. We commend the City of Vancouver for undertaking this bold commitment towards advancing UNDRIP, and we are now actively using this precedent in our work with First Nations clients when engaging the municipality on servicing negotiations. Country living is ok! Many of us know this already, but turns out more and more people have tapped into the benefits of living in regional WA. Top mentions for Boddington and Northam in this week’s article in The West. Long-term thinking and investment in regional communities can make a difference - there needs to be more thought directed by State Government’s into deliberately growing our regional centres. There’s no reason we can’t have the likes of a Toowoomba, Bendigo or Ballarat here in WA - the foundations exist. Celebrating a milestone in La Loche 🎉 At Innovation Federal Credit Union, we believe in the power of community and the importance of accessibility and affordability in financial services. I am thrilled to share a beautiful moment from our signing ceremony in La Loche, where we were graced with traditional drum and singing by an elder of the Indigenous community. This heartfelt performance signifies the deep cultural connection we honour as we prepare to open our new advice centre. Our new location in the former Friendship Centre building on Fountain Avenue is a testament to our commitment. With the support of the Town Council, community organizations, local nations, and businesses, we are excited to begin serving La Loche residents in the fall of 2024. The advice centre will have on-site advisors, a video-capable ATM, and a confidential meeting space (with video conference technology) providing members direct access to any Innovation experts without having to travel. Innovation’s CEO Daniel Johnson also highlights the importance of inclusion. “Establishing a new advice centre in this vibrant, underserved community is more than just a business decision for us; it’s a commitment to fostering financial inclusion, empowering local dreams, and building a brighter future together.” This initiative is not just a business decision; it’s a promise to foster financial inclusion and empower local dreams. Together, we are building a brighter future for La Loche and its surrounding communities.
