Australia has some pretty decent skiing zones, if you're prepared to tour! These are the western faces of the main range - a range holding Australia's highest peaks, stretching from Dead Horse Gap to the Rolling grounds. It is snow covered in winter, drawing an increasing number of backcountry skiers and snowboarders. It is wildly exposed, as the first major range storms hit coming from the west. Snow conditions can be anything from sheet ice to amazing to none there at all because it's all blown away. Ski crampons and ice tools are advised! This map is deliberately pizza-like, aiming to visualise the complexity of each slope using a colour scale seen often on snowpack analysis and avalanche safety assessment tools. A reminder of the need to always tune in to small changes as we go out and explore this world in winter. I haven't labelled everything, instead sticking to major landmarks, places you see talked about. This might change over time...
