Argo AI and Ford Partnership with Lyft Argo AI and Ford announced a collaboration with Lyft to introduce self-driving cars to the Lyft network. This initiative aims to deploy at least 1,000 autonomous vehicles across various markets over the next five years. The initial rollout will start in Miami by the end of 2021, followed by Austin in 2022. This collaboration is part of a broader effort to enhance urban mobility, improve safety, and provide sustainable transportation solutions. Lyft users in these areas will soon have the option to hail a self-driving Ford vehicle for their rides. Pentagon Report on Russia's AI Weaponization A report by the Pentagon has highlighted concerns over Russia's use of artificial intelligence in military applications. The report suggests that Russia is leveraging AI to enhance its offensive capabilities, posing new challenges for global security. This includes developing AI-driven systems for cyber warfare, autonomous weaponry, and sophisticated surveillance technologies. The U.S. Department of Defense is closely monitoring these developments to adapt its own strategies and maintain a technological edge in defense capabilities. The world’s top militaries must constantly innovate and embrace cutting edge tech to achieve operational readiness and relevance. Currently, ML/AI, robotics and autonomous-systems, and fleet electrification, are key research areas. If combat vehicles could be reliably electrified, it would immensely simplify military logistics — no need to carry large amounts of fuel to the frontlines. Such vehicles would be relatively noiseless, resulting in quieter troop movements. For battlefield EVs, battery chemistry and battery technology are critical considerations. US-based startup ION Storage Systems is developing a special type of solid-state battery (SSB) for the US military which can be commercially deployed at scale. ION’s anode-less and compression-less solid-state lithium metal batteries seem to check every conceivable box. They are non-flammable, fast-charging, energy-dense, and cost-effective. The SSB also performs well across a wide range of low and high temperatures. Perhaps combat EVs in the future can be charged by low-capacity portable microreactors at forward positions. Ultimately, electrification of the battlefield will result in lighter more mobile forces interfacing with autonomous vehicles and robots reducing human exposure to risk. #ElectricVehicles #CombatEV #BattlefieldEV #MilitaryEV #ZeroEmission
