The EPA recently enacted a rule requiring organizations to report information about PFAS in any of their manufactured or imported products. With the submission deadline only a year and a half away, businesses that use or import products with PFAS must invest time and money to comply with the regulation. Check out this Manufacturing Dive article that details the nuances of the rule and why businesses should begin this process as soon as possible: https://ow.ly/LKIr50Qq8AE #manufacturing #PFAS #EPA #supplychain

I’d like to point out that to me the headline of this concise and insightful article by Neil Hollis is an underappreciated lesson to all of #Europe - not just the #UK. And while the article nicely describes the specific challenges introduced by #UK_REACH much of its observations regarding value chains can be said for #EU_reach as well, in my opinion. An integral part of my work at Mitsui & Co. Deutschland GmbH is assisting our business departments and European partners to maintain these value chains, which of course go beyond the European single market. Yes, the British market is comparatively small when one focuses on the #EU, but that only means that problems imposed by regulation come to the fore faster and earlier. So these kind of lessons learned from #brexit should not be disregarded when discussing European regulatory developments. The way regulation moves forward in the EU, I can’t shake off the feeling that we are endangering value chains that will rely on imports for the foreseeable future. Britain suffers from disruptions in its value chains and is working hard to resolve the issue. But what of the rest of Europe? Mitsui & Co., Ltd.

ECHA adds five hazardous chemicals to the Candidate List as of 23 January 2024 The Candidate List, which identifies substances of very high concern, now encompasses 240 entries comprising chemicals with potential harm to people or the environment. Companies are obligated to manage the risks associated with these chemicals and provide customers with information on their safe usage. The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) recently incorporated five new chemicals into the Candidate List, including one toxic for reproduction, three highly persistent and bioaccumulative, and one toxic for reproduction, persistent, bioaccumulative, and toxic. These chemicals are present in various products like inks, toners, adhesives, sealants, as well as washing and cleaning products. Additionally, the ECHA updated the Candidate List entry for dibutyl phthalate to acknowledge its endocrine-disrupting properties for the environment. ECHA's Member State Committee has affirmed the inclusion of these substances in the Candidate List, which now comprises 240 entries, including some chemical groups, thereby impacting a higher overall number of chemicals. There is a possibility that these substances might be added to the Authorisation List in the future. If a substance is on this list, companies are prohibited from using it unless they seek authorization, granted by the European Commission. Consequences arising from the Candidate List include legal obligations for companies under REACH. When a substance is present, whether alone, in mixtures, or in articles, on the Candidate List, suppliers must provide information on safe usage if the concentration in an article exceeds 0.1% (weight by weight). Consumers are entitled to inquire if the products they purchase contain such substances. Importers and article producers must notify ECHA if their product contains a Candidate List substance within six months of its inclusion (since January 23, 2024). EU and EEA suppliers of substances on the Candidate List must update the safety data sheets they provide to customers. Additionally, in accordance with the Waste Framework Directive, companies must notify ECHA if the articles they manufacture contain substances of very high concern above 0.1% (weight by weight), with this information published in ECHA's SCIP database. #REACH #SVHC #Registrationofsubstances #producttesting PT.
