At Sunnybrook, we believe education is power and we work to empower our residents with the tools and knowledge to not only survive but to thrive. In 2023, our youth had over 1,180 plus hours of transitional programming and an 83% employment rate. Additionally, Sunnybrook residents are 3X more likely to find employment than other foster kids in Mississippi and 5X more likely to receive financial training. These numbers matter, especially when you look at national statistics of kids exiting foster care. Each year it is estimated that 20,000 youth exit the foster care system. National statistics say 25% of those youth are immediately homeless, less than 3% obtain a degree and 70% remain unemployed. We work to make a difference one life at a time. #Sunnybrook #Mississippi #faithandfostercare #fostercare #transitionalyouth #faith #nonprofit #education

In the wake of devastating fires and the spectacular destruction of homes, neighborhoods, and tranquility, it’s comforting to know that some will have a safe place to call home. Let’s pray California doesn’t allow the reckless delays, red tape, politics, out-of-control costs, powerful utilities, and NIMBYs to get in the way of expediting the rebuilding of mixed-income, intergenerational, complete communities for all Californians. #housingforall, #affordablehousing, #vibrantcommunities, #endredtape, #bethechange
Move In Day! IHO’s new affordable housing community in the City of Riverside, The Aspire, is a beautiful 33-unit community that is now home for transitional age youth including young people aging out of the foster care system. While living at The Aspire, our residents have access to onsite educational services and programs provided by Riverside Behavioral Health Services and the Riverside Community College District. These services include academic and career counseling, financial aid, and job placement assistance. The Aspire is also an important part of Riverside Mayor Patricia Lock Dawson, M.S., MBA’s Mayor’s Challenge to End Youth Homelessness. “We envisioned The Aspire as a launchpad to equip these young people with the tools to chart a path for ongoing personal and economic success. Within this community we can provide stability and safety as well as help our residents plan for and pursue their future goals and dreams,” shares IHO President and CEO Rochelle Mills. This National Foster Care Awareness Month, Let's Champion Education! Did you know? Only a small percentage of foster youth graduate college. While 93% aspire to attend, many face unique challenges that can make those dreams a struggle. According to the National Foster Youth Institute, studies have found that just 3-4% of former foster youth obtain a 4-year college degree, and only 2-6% receive a 2-year degree. Here's how you can make a difference: Donate to scholarship funds: Help ease the financial burden of college for foster youth. Mentor a foster student: Offer guidance and support as they navigate educational choices. Spread awareness: Share this post and raise awareness about the challenges faced by foster youth. Together, we can create a brighter future for foster students. #SupportFosterYouth #HigherEducationForAll #FosterCareAwarenessMonth

Are you looking for a way to make a positive impact in your community? The Bridgekeepers program is all about empowering youth to coordinate and implement their own service projects. Studies have shown that volunteering and altruism not only benefit others, but also have numerous health benefits for the individual, including improved self-image and a greater sense of purpose and satisfaction in life. When youth are involved in decision-making processes that affect them, the outcomes are more likely to be accepted and integrated into their daily lives. Collaborating with youth in developing programs not only engages them more effectively, but also leads to a greater impact in the long run. Students from Hubbard worked on packing homeless packages as part of their community service project this year. This is just one of the many ways that youth can make a difference in their communities. So, if you know a young person, encourage them to join in community service projects. It's a great way to give back, learn new skills, and connect with others who are passionate about making a difference. #Bridgekeepers #YouthInService #CommunityImpact #EmpowerYouth

What if the key to a stronger family and a thriving community is simply getting involved? Active participation in community activities and organizations creates a sense of belonging, fosters deeper connections, and strengthens the bond between families and the larger community. When families take part in local events, volunteer projects, or community organizations, everyone benefits; the family grows closer, and the community becomes more vibrant and unified. One of the biggest advantages is the sense of shared responsibility. When families get involved in their communities, they teach children the value of giving back and working together. This fosters empathy, teamwork, and civic responsibility, all crucial traits for developing strong, socially-conscious individuals. For example, in many Nigerian communities, local town meetings or communal projects like road repairs or clean-up efforts bring families together. These activities not only improve the physical environment but also build a spirit of cooperation and mutual support. Children who see their parents participating in such projects learn the importance of contributing to the common good, a lesson that sticks with them for life. When families are actively involved in their communities, they become part of a larger support network, creating lasting relationships that enrich their lives. At the same time, the community flourishes through their participation, becoming a more inclusive and engaged place where everyone has a role to play. Chose to be more involved in community activities.

Did you know that over 407,000 youth are currently in the foster care system across the United States? Here in Georgia, the need for support is especially critical. These young individuals face unique challenges that require our immediate attention and action. 📊 Key Facts and Statistics: Increased Risk: Youth in foster care are at a higher risk for adverse life outcomes, including educational challenges and mental health issues. They are seven times more likely to suffer from depression and five times more likely to experience anxiety compared to their non-foster peers. · Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs): Over 50% of foster youth have dealt with four or more ACEs, which can lead to chronic health problems, mental illness, and substance abuse later in life. · Educational Challenges: Foster youth are more likely to struggle with absenteeism and have special education needs, making it harder for them to achieve academic success. · Support Systems: Programs that focus on leadership, life skills, and relationship building are crucial. However, these programs need your support to continue making a difference. 🤝 How You Can Help: Volunteer: Your time and skills can make a significant impact on a child's life. Consider becoming a mentor or volunteering at local programs. Donate: Financial contributions are essential to fund the necessary programs and services that support foster youth. Advocate: Use your voice to raise awareness about the needs of foster youth and advocate for policies that provide better support and resources. By getting involved, you can help foster youth in Georgia overcome these challenges and achieve their full potential. Let's create a brighter future for these young individuals together! 🔗Join us in making a difference: www.camphorizon.net #FosterCare #Georgia #YouthSupport #Volunteer #Donate #Advocate #MakeADifference
