🔍 Empowering Student Success Through Student-Led Conferences 🔍
Are you ready to unlock a powerful educational approach that empowers students and fosters a dynamic learning experience? Join me as we delve into the world of Student-Led Conferences (SLCs), a transformational shift from traditional parent-teacher conferences.
In a traditional conference, educators often steer the conversation, discussing a student's performance. However, SLCs flip the script, placing students in the driver's seat. Imagine students confidently sharing their progress, reflecting on their journey, and setting goals with the poise of seasoned professionals. This innovative approach sparks a new level of engagement and ownership in learning.
Unpacking the Power of SLCs
1. Ownership of Learning: SLCs empower students to take charge of their educational journey.
2. Reflective Practice: Students gain insights by self-assessing their progress and achievements.
3. Goal Setting: SLCs provide a platform for meaningful goal setting.
4. Communication Skills: Students flourish as they articulate thoughts and engage in discussions.
5. Family Engagement: Parents actively participate, strengthening the home-school connection.
6. Celebration of Wins: SLCs celebrate every victory, motivating continued effort.
🔮 A Future Fueled by Student-Centered Learning🔮
SLCs serve as a beacon for student empowerment. By nurturing critical thinking, communication, and self-awareness, SLCs cultivate lifelong learners. Let's shape a future where our students thrive in a dynamic, ever-evolving world.

This is my favorite episode yet. If you're interested in the faculty role in student success (and why, in Jody's words, it can't just be about the faculty bringing the course and students bringing their diligence into a "static space") please have a listen.
🆕🎧 #StudentSuccess | This week’s episode of Voices of Student Success features Jody Greene, associate campus provost for academic success at the University of California, Santa Cruz, on the relationship between faculty and student success, how UCSC is empowering faculty to practice equitable course design and the future of academic success.
🎙️ Hosted by Inside Higher Ed Student Success reporter Ashley Mowreader, this episode is sponsored by InsideTrack.

The #1 and only Wade Stanford, Superintendent of WESTWOOD INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT, joined me as co-host to talk literacy, urgency, and his 10X goals for students. Big shout-out to VP ,Claudia Salinas from Curriculum Associates, for accpeting the challenge of ensuring WW is supported and ready to achieve a 10X for student growth. I love the passion and fire from both of these individuals!
In her article “UF Quest Hits Its Stride,” LearningWell Editor-in-Chief Marjorie Malpiede explores a big-thinking, eye-opening program embedded into the general education curriculum at the University of Florida. Read more to learn how the new Gen-Ed program is engaging students and gaining traction with faculty.

Schools director at Muddy Stilettos *The UK's no.1 lifestyle site for ABC1, smart, fun-loving women who love to spend*. 3.8m reach every month. Muddy Stilettos' Best Schools Awards open Jan 24.
The Muddy Best Schools Awards 2024 have launched!
I'm thrilled to let you know that The Muddy Stilettos Best Schools Awards, in partnership with Debrett's Education, have just opened and are ready for entries up until 21 March 2024.
Hero Brown started the Best Schools Awards in 2022, because she felt like there was a need for an Awards that focused on on modern, innovative, forward-thinking education rather than just pure academics or schools trading on their name or past glories - values we share with Debrett's Education and our incredible panel of judges:
Patrick Derham OBE, Roz Savage MBE, Emma Goldsmith,
Guy Schady-Beckett, Stefan Anderson, Prof Dr Ger Graus OBE, Lucy Elphinstone, Tove Okunniwa MBE, Toby Garbett OLY, Mark Semmence,
Dr Jess Wade, William Phelps, Sophie Green and Sioban O'Connor.
Hero also wanted to give a strong, impartial helping hand for families trying to see past glossy school marketing brochures to choose the school where their children would be happy and thrive.
Our 13 categories have been chosen to really test a school's brilliance and innovation in areas that parents (like me) care about including pastoral care, passionate sports provision, creative learning, and a dynamic arts programme. This year we've added three new categories - Best Learning Support, Prepared for Life (Sixth Form) and Most Inclusive School.
Parents: watch this space, and we'll let you know the Highly Commendeds, Finalists and Winners in due course!
Schools: you can enter via the link below - 1.3m ABC1 Muddy readers will know all about it if you reach the podium!
The first entry is FREE and schools can enter as many of the categories as they like until 21 March 2024. Click the link below for the full rundown on categories, our INCREDIBLE judging panel, back for the third year (expert doesn't quite cover it) and download your entry form.
