Our annual summer party took place at the beautiful China Fleet Country Club this year. As usual, it's lovely to hang up the fab suits and office wear and get everyone together—family included—to celebrate all our hard work and achievements so far this year. We were fortunate to have glorious sunshine for the party, which allowed us to fully utilize the giant lawn games and inflatable assault course! We're not sure who was more tired at the end - the children or adults. #lifeatPlessey

During my time at the Korey Stringer Institute, under the guidance of Dr. Douglas Casa, a leading expert on heat-related illnesses and sudden death in sports, I learned the critical importance of immediate recognition, accurate body temperature assessment, and the activation of rapid cooling techniques. As extreme and record-breaking temperatures continue to impact the world, it is essential that we continue to educate ourselves to protect our athletes and communities from preventable, life-threatening injuries. Senior Coach/Exercise and Performance Scientist- High Performance Tennis Masters by Research Candidate - Volleyball Australia/University of South Australia
This week I got back from Traralgon J300 helping out one of Australia’s top junior players. The standard was unbelievable, as expected. Upon reflection there are two main take aways: 1. To continue to compete with the best players in the world we as performance/ strength and conditioning coaches need to emphasise building physical qualities from a younger age. This means inclusion of a larger variety of sports when young as well as the more formalised s+c. The game is too physical and too demanding to ignore this until teens. 2. Should we be promoting luxuries such as wildcards so frequently? I heard a lot of talk from players around who’s competing for wildcard spots. While open for discussion, does this mentality of “earning” a wildcard let us rest on our laurels? Those from non Grand-Slam countries weren’t afforded such benefits and the standard they are consistently producing is world class. Rather than 6-8 being the norm, would a cap of 2 demand more competition?

When Elina Kelly asked me around 5km in yesterday "do you find it easy?", I instantly replied "never". 💫 I love being active and will give anything a go. Reflecting on the year so far, I've ran pretty much every week, various paces, distances and terrain. Alongside that I love golf, combat sports, weight training amongst many other things and would never consider any of them 'easy'. They all come with something that pushes you that little bit harder whether that's mentally or physically. 🤼 What I love as much as pushing myself to my limits or out of my comfort zone, is doing that with others. Recognising our capabilities, pushing the boundaries and achieving whatever it is we set out to achieve. 🧠 My mentality translates very much in to everything outside of fitness too, working with others to get the best from them, whether that's businesses or individuals. You've got to love team efforts, what an achievement Elina 👏 🥇 If you made it to the bottom of this post, I'd love to know what you've achieved recently, personally and/or professionally! #achievement #team #fitness #mindset
Great day yesterday completing my first outdoor 10km! I didn’t do the organised York one - just went and did a route in the afternoon with Stephanie Ward. Definitely didn’t expect I would be able to do it and do it comfortably but we did it! Great end to the weekend and good way to start the week ahead 🤩

Great post, Matt! I completely agree with you - cliches often hold some truth to them. Betting on the jockey is indeed a wise move when it comes to decision-making. You've highlighted some key qualities that make a good jockey, such as self-awareness and humility. These traits allow them to continuously self-scout and learn from their mistakes, avoiding potential pitfalls. In addition, the concept of inevitability is intriguing. When someone feels a deep calling towards a particular path or purpose, it can be incredibly powerful. The unwavering determination that comes from this sense of predestination can push individuals to overcome any obstacles in their way. Thank you for sharing these insights! It's always valuable to gain new perspectives on success and leadership.

Bet on the jockey. Yes, it’s such a cliche - but cliche for a reason. They’re usually true and they’re meant to save you time and pain from having to relive someone else’s failure. So what makes a good jockey? 1 - over index for self awareness so they self-scout and course correct before it’s too late. 2 - over index for humility so they remain intellectually curious about what they don’t know. 3 - inevitability. The universe put them on this earth to do THIS thing and they will not be defeated because it is predestined.
