As reported by MyLondon News, Southwark Council has announced it is investing £1.5million towards the opening of a new LGBTQ+ venue in Bankside, on the site of the former XXL club that closed in 2019. Comprising of a theatre and a workplace and set to open in 2026, the new space will sit within two revitalised railway arches at our Bankside Yards project. Aligned with the vision of our masterplan, this prominent addition will further enhance the ever-evolving landscape of the South Bank. One year ago, we published our report ‘Out in London’, an in depth look at the experiences of those in the LGBTQ+ community when travelling on public transport. The findings were concerning, with one in five LGBTQ+ passengers telling us they had experienced hate crimes when travelling on public transport, and were also reluctant to report it due to lack of confidence and trust in policing. Since the report was launched, we’ve worked with a range of transport operators and organisations to continue to raise awareness of our key findings and look at ways to improve personal security for LGBTQ+ passengers. We are also supporting the amazing Zoteria app, which enables people to quickly and easily flag a hate encounter occurring to themselves or others, and get free expert support. Later this week we’re hosting a Personal Security summit alongside Transport for London, which will give us another opportunity to come together with stakeholders to discuss what is being currently done and look at what could be Improved. Walking into a meeting with a client on a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) program, I find myself reflecting on the potential global and local implications of recent developments, particularly President Trump’s crackdown on DEI initiatives. From my perspective, the focus of this crackdown seems heavily skewed toward LGBTQ+ issues. However, I would like to deepen my understanding of his policies and their broader impact. Specifically, I am pondering: 1. Will these policies affect all forms of DEI globally, including here in Ghana? 2. Could this lead to reduced funding and institutional support for DEI programs from boards and organizations worldwide? #DEIMatters #GlobalImpact #DiversityAndInclusion #ProjectManagement

People from Black, Asian, and other minority ethnic backgrounds are more likely to experience unfairness in NHS organisations like ours, whether as patients or members of staff. It’s a similar picture for other minoritised groups, such as women or disabled people or people from LGBTQ+ or religious communities. This is not acceptable. Last week we launched the commitments we need to deliver to become a truly anti-racist and anti-discriminatory organisation.
