Circular design begins at the design phase—and it holds the key to a more sustainable future. At its core, circular design challenges the traditional linear model of "take, make, waste" by prioritising longevity, reusability, and recyclability. It’s driven by the principles of the circular economy, which focus on: - Eliminating waste and pollution: Opting for non-toxic, recyclable materials and pushing for material and product innovation. - Circulating products and materials: Designing products to remain in use at their highest value for as long as possible—through strategies like repairability, disassembly, and technical durability. - Regenerating nature: Ensuring products can safely return to the earth, supporting natural ecosystems instead of depleting them. By embracing these principles, the design phase becomes a powerful tool in shaping a future where products serve not just people, but the planet as well. Circular design isn’t just an ideal—it’s a necessity for building a healthier economy and a more sustainable world. (Ellen Macarthur Foundation) #CircularDesign #Sustainability #CircularEconomy

Cradle to Cradle: Reimagining Design for a Circular Economy In our linear "take-make-dispose" system, waste is inevitable. But what if we could design products and systems that mimic nature, where waste becomes food? Cradle to Cradle (C2C) is a revolutionary design philosophy that challenges this outdated model. It views materials as nutrients, either circulating safely as technical nutrients (indefinitely reusable) or nourishing the earth as biological nutrients (compostable). This groundbreaking approach prioritizes: 1)Eliminating toxic materials: Ensuring the safety of both human and environmental health. 2) Maximizing resource efficiency: Designing for disassembly and recyclability. 3) Creating positive environmental impacts: Regenerating natural systems and minimizing our ecological footprint. C2C isn't just a concept; it's a framework for creating a truly sustainable future. Want to learn more about Cradle to Cradle and how to integrate it into your architectural projects?
