Perfect on paper and in person.. but not perfect for the job. We recently hired a Senior Project Manager for an architectural millwork firm outside of Denver. He presented exceptionally, passed our extensive process, and had (multiple) incredible on-site conversations with ownership - even discussing an equity track in the near future. Yet, within two weeks of his start, he put in his notice as he was offered a different position he "couldn't pass up". This was a stark reminder that no matter how great a recruiter or hiring manager you are, we are still working with human beings. All parties involved were stunned.. except the candidate of course. We pride ourselves on a low refill rate - but sometimes we are reminded - people are people. This industry will never be black and white. It’s as much an art as it is a science. Sometimes, things happens. Always be wary of anyone promising 100% certainty in hiring. Embrace the human element and understand that unpredictability is part of the game. An effective search partner knows how to account for most variables - but it will never be absolute. (Don't worry - we already have submitted replacement candidates) . . . #hiring #recruiting #construction #bybmym

Someone said the portfolio should be an executive summary and not a detailed report. I believe this approach helps to create portfolio better. Again, hiring managers don't have too much time to go through in details till they are attracted and convinced you're good and your work is outstanding. #design #dailydesigndose #portfolio #hiringmanager

Operations and program management leader | I help teams maximize results 📈, unite 🤝, innovate 💡, and thrive 🪴 together | Project Management Professional (PMP) | Certified Scrum Master (CSM & PSM)
Hiring is a lot like buying a home. It’s easy to get swept up in fresh bright paint, granite countertops, or beautiful luxury vinyl flooring. But what’s most important is that the foundation is strong and the structure fits your needs. Otherwise, you run the risk of winding up in a beautiful house that you don’t actually like. The same thing can be said for job candidates. It’s easy to get swept up in wanting the nice, shiny, perfect set of skills but it’s important to look beyond that and make sure they have the right foundation and structure for the role. Otherwise, you run the risk of having a team member who is skilled but either isn’t able to grow, adapt, or help push the team to new heights. The foundational characteristics can change from team to team or even role to role. For example, a customer support team might want someone who is passionate about customers, open to feedback, and good at problem solving. A PMO might want someone who is curious and eager to learn, great at building rapport with stakeholders, and organized. (These examples are by no means all-inclusive) So what can you do as a hiring manager? 🗒 Make a list of the foundational characteristics you’re looking for 💬 If you’re working with a recruiter, share your list with them ❓ Choose your interview questions carefully - rather than verifying the skills on their resume, ask things that help you assess how they demonstrate the characteristics they’re looking for ➕ Focus on culture add, not culture fit What are some foundational characteristics that are important for your team members to have? #leadership #management #hiringmanager

An absolute game-changer for organizations seeking specialized expertise without the long term commitment of a full-time hire. What is a Fractional Team Member?
